Let's talk about brainfog/ memory loss

I have become very forgetful.... at 63 that is somewhat expected.... but not like this.  Confused a great deal of the time.  This makes me anxious and I am always thinking of what I am doing trying to keep my mind on what is being said and done. I am somewhat anxious about going out alone.
When I do , the trips are my regular close to home.... post office, grocery store. etc . Getting out is important because I know that this is good for me.  I start out later in the day as I sleep late in the morning... So tired. I try to keep up with things around the house, but find that some projects I dread and everything is an effort.  When I complete a project,  I am happy, but it takes me longer to get done what was once so easy to do. I sure would appreciate feedback from others who have experienced this side effect.  Thank you very much.  love your support.  Lostpass

Sounds just like me, and now, 1yr post tx, physically improving a little, gained weight, but the mental is not much different than during tx...wishing you the best.  I made it through the 48 wks with the hope that things would go back to normal...during tx I had to "farm out" my horses, and barely took care of my other critters, my daughter pretty much took care of herself.  I wouldn't let anyone help, felt to disgusted with how things got at home, piles of laundry, dirty house, no food...not much better now, seems like I completely forgot how to shop, cook, etc.  I wander the grocery store, unable to focus...this post tx mental state is horrible for me, hope it is better for everyone else!

I'm only at week 13 of TX and everyday tasks are becoming insumountable.  (There's NOOOO way I could work on this!)

I honestly can't beleive I'm the same person now that just 4 months ago got up every day at 6:30, got to work by 8, supervised 150+ kids, came home, cleaned the house, took care of the pets, exercised, read, even got in an hour or so of writing.

Today, I'm lucky if I even get OUT of the house more than 2 or 3 times a week.

It's unbelievable.

You don't mention but I assume you are doing tx. Fatigue and fuzzy brains are side effects. If you have any cirrhosis, your ammonia level should be checked. It its high, you may need to take lactulose which helps immensely with that kind of brain fog ( there's a name for it, starts with an E but I can't remember it).  I'd also talk with your doctor.    Good luck.

I read an article this last fall that says memory loss can be an issue on treatment.  It can take years to recover it all.  Be patient.  Most of us have experienced different degrees of the issue.  Take some Omega3 pills and eat healthy choices.  From what I remember (and I do have brain fog a bit) it does come back little bit by little bit.

it is really frightening to hear that this is a lasting side effect. if it is anything like this for me one year after tx, i will have some major problems as i am needing to launch a new career.

hoping that a six month tx not as many lasting sides.

sorry for your experiences.

1 yr past tx and I can't remember much, short term memory TERRIBLE.  I have other posts, can't even remember where they are...It took me 4 hours just to be able to leave the house to pick something up, driving...had to pull over twice because I can't remember what I am doing...I would rather have liver disease...as you can see, today, as are most, is a very bad day...if I have any, even 1, task I must do it takes all my will to remember and figure out how to do it.  Don't remember to pick my teenager up at school, etc.

I have completed the 12 months and I am doing the 6 month followup.  I have 3 1/2 months to go. Hep C has been non-detected from month 3 of the treatments into the intial 12 month treatment time  .I am very pleased with this,  but as I have said in my post  "post hep c treatment side effects 3/13,  I am disappointed that I feel  down right awful when I am supposed to feel so much better.  Sharing with others has been a real eye opener and I have learned more than from my DR.  Others complain of the same thing and even speak of long term side effects which I was not aware of. Geno type 1 Thank you for sharing.  Lostpass                Being forgetful causes anxiety in itself.
