Liver Problems Due to Depakote

by Isaura, Oct 09, 2004 12:00AM
What are the problems associated with Depakote in the liver? After taking Depakote for about three months my liver has become enlarged. Are there any serious dangers I may be facing?
Thank you.

my suggestion is to speak with your physician and ask him all questions, there are no physicians in this forum, mostly patients.
You can also contact the manufacturer for information

I was told when I started taking 250mg of Depakote for migraine prevention that it wasnt enough per day to cause any liver problems, but when used for depression or bipolar (i cant remember whatelse its for!) they can prescribe larger and larger amounts which can affect your liver, so your doctor should be aware of this and run liver function tests occasionally to see if it is having adverse affects on you.  Do what they said and check with your doctor - obviously he must know somethings up if he told you your liver is enlarged.  GOOD luck To You!
