Liver pain?

All day I've been having intense pains that come and go, high up on the right side of my abdomen and they're getting worse. Could this really be liver pain? Is that possible? I'm starting to kind of double over into them when they come on. As a side note, I relapsed on alcohol the night before last, and had A LOT to drink. Any input?

Hey are u kidding me.. I am a human rat this week.  I have had more blood drawn and am going for a new ct scan and a hida scan with an upper endo what ever.  I am so sick of it.. but today I got a win of my total ck level..and it was quite high... am starting to think that this can be muscle break down which is causing infalmation through out my body and organs.  My hep c test came back negative today again.

i've been going through that for almost 5 month. I kept going to doctor and did my alt test twice. first time my alt was 120 and the second time it was 176. SO i tthink it is the inflamation of lever that cause the pain to some people. you better see doctor asap.

Hey there I did not realize that this was a hep c forum... My hep c came back negative... I was pos for mono 15 years ago.. although they just ran new hep tests friday...I know diet is important I don't drink anymore since the pain started up again two months ago..I started taking probiotics in case it is ibs.. but the past two days nothing has worked.. I used to eat a hand full of coffee beans with caffene which is excellent detox for the liver and helps fight cancer... and it would totally do the trick with in an hour.  The pain is especially prevelant when I am sitting driving.

Dear friend,
I really don't know what could it be, but what you describe it seems to be something very similar to what I feel, in fact, for the same amount of years as well.
Here it goes: Mention to your doctor to explain to you a bit more in depth about IBS (irritable Bowel Syndrome), I am quite positive that this is the problem and this is actually the least of the problems, since it is simple to solve and it is fully manageable by you and your life style.
I have minimized my pain drastically in the past 2 years, it all depends on what I eat or drink, and VOILA, it comes back.
Do some reading about IBS, it may help you.
Take care, good luck and I hope you feel better, but DO NOT WORRY to much, that is also one factor that affects you.

Man we are in the same  boat.  I have that pain right now its in the lower part of my right abdomen... sometimes its in the back.. sometimes it near my gall bladder sometimes it raidiates down my right leg near my hip.  I picked up an old ct scan of mine and took it to my new doc.. he has no clue so is sending me for a new ct scan and hida scan this week.  I am worried it can be anything even a mass which has grown there from having a fatty liver.  I have had this issue for the past 15 years and when i first went for a ct  scan back in 94 they told me the pain was from a calicified adrenal gland.  The way i see it is I know for sure I have a fatty liver... and trust me when I tell u I am a health freak and work out 5 days a week.  But some how over the years my liver has  been enlarged.. so my own analagy is that after I eat if i eat a bit more than I should my stomach expands to hit the side of my liver..since my liver is already enlarged it does not leave much room in there. It is mofo anoying it dull but always there the only time it is not is in the morning before I eat anything.  They have ruled out gall stones, kidney stones, ulcer..what ever.  Am actually scared to get these tests done this week... after all I have been living with this pain for 15 years on and off.

Thanks All,

I have a call into my GI Dr right now. Awaiting advice from him as to whether or not I should go to ER, or wait and see him this week. The pain isn't going away since yesterday, and it IS a new and sudden pain I haven't felt before. It comes and goes, but when it comes, it is really intense. Today it feels located just above my waist on the right side.

I'll let you all know how it turns out, and what it is if they can determine it.

Bye for now.

~Charlotte

PS to FretBoard: I checked out your pics. I know which one yu were referring to, and Yuck! I need to avoid that if at all possible.

Just answered the call from the GI. He says go to the nearset ER. Going to get ready to go. Check back with you all asap.

Dear friend,
I am quite sure that your pain is related to a syndrome called "Irritable Bowel Syndrome", I had the exact same symptoms for years without really knowing what was the problem, I now have found out that I suffer from that and I have minimized the pain for months now with a simple diet. (avoind tomato sauce, chocolate, sweets, and fried food).
Notice what you eat before you start feeling the pain, then make a check list of what may be causing the pain for a week and you will see that you may not even need any treatment for that just avoid the food that makes you feel that way.
IBS is very common, many Americans have it without even being aware of it.
Good luck and hope you feel better,
Luiz

I had that pain off and on for 21/2 years, i thought my rirbs were broke that's how bad it hurt, they would give me anti inflamitories and pain meds which all helped but once i stopped taking meds pain would eventually come back, finally my doc sent me to rhumatologist who told me i have hcv. doc did all kinds of tests to rule out gallbladder, and a couple of other things but everything was ok, so we keep thinking it's from hcv, and i thank God for that pain cause i would of never thought, let alone go to doctors, and so far genotype 1 am undeteced.. i have not had pain in a year, so i don't know?

I've posted pains as you describe-mine turned out to be a gall stone-had it removed and haven't had anymore episodes.  Was discovered by Echo of the abdomen after complaining long enough.

You should get professional help ASAP if it continues.  I could be your gall bladder or an ulcer.  The liver does not usually produce pain directly.  Biopsies sometimes cause referred pain in the shoulder not in the liver itself.

It's always a terrible thing to relapse when you're tying to stop anything so I won't even go there.  Take a look at my pics, there may be one that you could find helpful.  good luck
