Loss of pigmentation

Hello everyone,

Has anyone ever heard of loss of pigmentation during interferon and riba therapy? This is happening mostly around a couple of finger tips. Can an autoimmune problem cause this? Thanks in advance.

One more question: will this loss of pigmentation be reversed after treatment?

The only obvious hcv skin related issue I had is spider angioma (think that's what it's called)  which are small (dime size) blotchy, spidery capillary looking things on my upper chest. I thought they were age related.  It was the first thing my doc noticed though and it's a sign of hcv.  But, that's probably not what you are looking for.  Google 'skin pigmentation changes'.  You'll get a lot of hits and articles that can list some of the sources/reasons. Good luck.

The way I look at it, treating hep c is more akin to war than a sporting event. In sporting events, one "gives up"  when falling short of the course. In war, the best generals often utilize strategic retreat to consolidate their losses and to be able to launch a better fight, another day.

Part of fighting a battle is assesing risks and rewards. And that is why so many recommend a biopsy before starting all over again.

Goofy as I understand it is somewhere near a stage 4, and I'm probably a 3. Our options therefore are more limited. Also, I'm not clear yet, and should I relapse not sure I'd re-treat for at least six months, and hopefully it would then be with different drugs.

Anyway, I want you to know I respect your fighting never-give-in, do-or-die spirit. I just personally think it can come back to bite you with this disease.

That said, we're all rooting for you, whatever you decide and apologies for overmaking any points. BTW what I had in mind was *Fibroscan* not fibrosure. Fibrosure is a blood test, Fibroscan is a device being used in Europe and now in trial here. It's a five minute, non-evasive procedure that measures liver hardness and translates it into a biopsy stage. Sort of like an ultrasound, but different.

All the best.

Jimbo: (that's what they called Jimmy Morrison huh?) hey beautifully articulated military analogies...youre right, and I hope she takes your advice, though she sure as heck can do whatever she feels best...

Goof...that's the fun of it huh? I might be a dude for all you know...I do reside in West Hollywood ...my girlfriends get a tad  psst at me now and then for being too much like one-a-yas...in mentality that is: I enjoyed tactical paint-ball immensely...but no noticable adam's apple on this kid...and frankly, I think sportin that whole stick-and-berries thing would be way too much of a bother, who would choose outside plumbing over inside?...oh, and I got youre whole "post-menopausal" code for old bag, I'd like you to know that me and Califia are not looking anything like our sell-by dates...for your information...told you before, you start looking old around here youre kidnapped and never heard from again...

Hey, sorry Girlie. I wasn't maligning what you might like as much as the way you might sound - I know you're cute as the dickins. Didn't you say the sound of splatting pies would let me know you were around? Still try to figure whether the splat sounds come with each step, only upon rising from a vinyl seat, following a sneeze, while chewing, or accompanying gassy emissions. Inquiring minds want to know :)

NY Girl is really tall...things like that...and darn it if I don't think you probably wear glasses...chic ones of course!

You might have vitiligo. I developed loss of pigmentation when I was on Pegasys. (I also developed unbearable itching to the point where I had to take cortisteroids?).  Anyway, my skin got a little bit better after treatment, but I still have splotches  on my forearms and my hands where there is no pigmentation. The dr calls it vitiligo and I believe it is an autoimmune disease.

Lets hear it for riba brain!!  I spaced my flight out yesterday, couldn't reschedule, hard to get to rapid city SD.  Good news (for me anyway) they had a blizzard, guy coming from Jackson Hole hasn't been heard from, guy from saratoga wyo ended up in the ditch in a govt vehicle.... I'm tellin ya, it was a blessing!!  Gave my presentation over the phone after I emailed them the ppt.  Oh, I also told them I missed my flight because of all the snow on the way to the airport.  As they know it was in the 90s here, they all got a kick out of that!!

So, for once, a screw up turned out to a good thing!!  I would have had to drove 90 miles after I landed at 9:30 at night, and then gotten up at 4:30 to make my flight home....also actually got my taxes in!!  life is good....... hope the same for yalll

all I know is you being to accomplish all that logistical stuff on treatment is truly inspiring...I hope you are more typical than atypical, cause I figure I probably couldnt pull all that off treatment or no treatment!!!

Hey forseegood, you and I are making the assumption that i don't screw up all the time!!  How would I know??  REally, my biggest complaint is what I call "stupid tired" ... you know that feeling that you are just so tired you can't think straight?  So, dyce and I and can do and all the others really use this forum to count our blessings.  MOST of us do OK, not great, but OK, and they is always a silver lining... or most of the time.

Dyce and Can do- thanks!! At least I wont qualify for the annual darwin award.... yall know what that is?  Essentially the individual that does the gene pool the most good by killing themselves in the most totally stupid way.... this year wasn't too good, you can google to see what creative ways people find to screw up!!

I pretty much eat like a kid unless I cook a big southern meal.  I like PB&J, burgers, pizza!  When I cook, I make stuff like butter beans, squash, peas, new potatoes, fried corn, meatloaf, corn bread or homemade biscuits, or I cook creole/cajun like gumbo, etoufee, jambalaya.  I love cooking, just don't do it for myself!

I hope my tx diet of ham/bacon eggs w/homefries and double-buttered toast scores some "man-eatin'" points :) Truth is I love practically ALL food -- problem is my system doesn't right now. BTW the meatloaf, tators and gravey sounded so good I had to take a swig of Mylanta.

That's a relief. Question -- What's the story on goat milk? Does it taste similar? Does it work with corn flakes? Is it raw or pasturized? Safe for us immune-supressed types? Will I start eating cans and old tires?

I think it tastes great, you have to check it out to see if you like it, (wish I could be there to see if you screw up your face, though I think you'll like it) it mostly tastes the same really, especially in smoothies or in cereal...actually, I think the cheeze tastes better...it's kind a pricey though, unfortunately, and there is a season where the goats are lactating and it's hard to find cause they are busy having kids!!!Redwood Hill Farms makes a good Vanilla yogurt, and Meyenberg makes a good goat milk, the cheeze you can get any place really...much easier on the digestion...okay, I know I'm gettin it now!!!!

Will I start eating cans and old tires?...... That and you won't need to mow any more. BTW do you milk a goat the same as a cow? I've milked cows before but a goat.

I love edamame, just not in my ice cream!  I cook it in the pod and it's kind of like eating boiled peanuts!  I do like the soy milk okay, but I haven't had goat milk.  Just not sure about it!!!  But I'll usually try anything once except bizarre game animals!

Hey, goats are easier to milk than cows, because they are smarter.  They jump up on the stanchion, put there little head in the slot, you give them their grain, and life is good... unless you happened to be the son that had to milk the goats.  The first day, it tasted perfect, second day it had a little taste reminiscent of goat......don;t know about pasteurization, we didn't but... I think if you throw it to the dogs every day, you'll be fine... Want some phone numbers for goat folks?  Avoid nubians (remember the screamer?)... go for french alpines...

I admit it, I had a different upbringing.  My father used to say "try this" and it would be rattlesnake, alligator, buffalo, or something else really off the wall.  I got where I wouldn't eat any meat except shrimp, burger or steak at all until I was older.  I always got laughed at for only eating hushpuppies at the fish fries or dirty rice at dove suppers!

Oh yeah, there are always La Manchas- they have no external ears.........kidd you not.. no pun intended..
