Low ALT

Hi I have 10wks Peg-Riba to go of my 48 just had my check up with the Dr & my latest blood work was all good but one thing stuck out to me, my ALT was 10 & AST 26 ... I've never had ALT this low, it was just over 100 at start of Tx & went down pretty fast to 20's. Is 10 anything to worry about the doc says NO. I never heard of anyone having low ALT, is there a reading that is "Too Low" ... Thanks all Merry Christmas lets hope we all get our SVR from santa :-)

I am staying at 12.  The 'normal' range is determined by doing statistical analysis on everyone who's had their bloodwork done in that lab.  It changes a little from lab to lab and is just an average of their patients.  On some things, being out of range is not a bad thing.  I had high albumin and looked that up and it said 'no disease is associated with high albumin levels'.  Being on the low side for ALT is probably the same sort of thing; nothing wrong there, just hasn't been seen in that lab before.

Don't worry.  They measure enzymes that are leaking into the blood from muscle tissue  or liver cells.  You're not leaking.  It's good.

The normal ALT range is 9 to 60 so you are at the bottom end of the normal range - nothing to worry about and it is a good sign that your ALT has dropped.
