Low Neutrophils for more that a year.

by Rosebud41, Feb 23, 2009 02:35PM
I have low neutrophil count.

They dropped just prior to treatment last Feb 08.

They got them back up momentarily with Neupogen.

Recently, when they tried Neupogen I had chest pain and I was sent a hematologist for the second time

I've two bone marrow biopsys about  9 months apart  and everything has come back fine.

My doctor suggested I try 1/2 dose and see what happens.

This has been going on more than a year.  I've seen two hematologist who can't find anything wrong.

When I asked the doctors nurse to show me how to take 150 mcg. she said she would show me how to do that, but
"it was on me."

The doctor is thought to be one of the best in my area, but his staff  leaves a lot to be desired.

i've been on Neup wkly for a little more than 32 weeks already and really started to feel it after the 30th wk, now the day after i take a Neup, i always feel like krap and my nose gets all stuffed up, i feel warm, and my head just hurts.  i'm willing to endure as long as i can get this tx done and as long as Neup does it's job.  my medical staffs usually don't do zip, so i have to take matters into my own hands at times with a full course load at school.

best of luck to you

Thanks...

I generally have had the same sympoms as you described
except the last time I took Neup I had very bad chest pains.  That
was something I could not deal with on my own.

Like you the staff at my doctor"s office are not very helpful.
My doctor is well known in the area for the treatment of hep c.
But, even he refers to me as the mystery patient.

As a matter of fact today the nurse in the office who is suppose to show me how to take 1/2 dose of neupogen suggested that maybe I might have an even worse experience  than the previous incident.

I asked her what choice did I have other than to let my hep c destroy my liver and she didn't seem the least bit concerned.
