Hi everyone ! I have been reading posts for quite a while but this is my 1st post - geno 1a, just had my 14th peg shot with 1000 mg of copeg daily. at 13 weeks I was undectable. But...  my platelet count is at 57, started at 120 or so - everything else is ok although the blood count is a little low - what happens if the platelets goes too low ??  Dr says at a count of 40 we got a problem - seems a shame to have to stop tx since it seems I have started out pretty good - any info whould sure be appreaciated !

thanks

My  platelets got really low at the end of my treatment and my doctor cut my dose in half 3 times and extended the treatment 3 weeks to make sure I got all the interferon in my body. I continued with the ribaviron, also. I think he lowered it when I got below 45 or somewhere around there. I was seeing a hematologist and he told me to stay away from knives, be careful around sharp edges, no crazy physical activity where I could harm myself (like skiing) and stay away from too much aspirin.
Take care of yourself and you will get through this.

My Doctor policy is below 20k dose reduction and monitor weekly. Below 10k your off interferon. Google

ha love your name!!!  just dont do any "drive-by fruitings!!!     were your platelets low to begin with?  mine were low to begin with around 100.  went to 90 during tx.  then a year after tx.  they are still around 110.  on the low side.  cant figure it out.

Love your handle:)
Sorry about your platelet problem - your best options are to follow up on the links that were provided for you and take the results to your Dr. to discuss tx solutions.  Good luck with that and Happy Thansgiving to you, too:)

This same thing is happening to me.  My doc said that 30,000 would be the magic number to end treatment.   I'm going to show the above post where this other doc's number is 20,000 and see what he says.  I'm on week 23/48.  What my doc did is lower my pegysus to 135ml from 180ml.  When I last asked when he thought we might get back to 180, he said that looking at my blood work that 135 would be better for me for the rest of treatment.  Maybe when I show him this other post he'll raise it.

Hi there ...hubby has been down to 21 and still did full tx...and survived.  Hang in there.  Perhaps your doc will 1/2 dose you...ask him.  Just keep on tx.
Best wishes,
Shebee
