thanks for the info, if my Doctor says it will be okay during treatment, even if I chose not to treat, I will go back next week and start it...
You should get tested after completing the Hep B series of vaccinations, regardless, to make sure the antibody is detectable. Some people do not respond and another series or a booster can be given. I am currently doing my second series, the 2nd is given one month after the first shot and the 3rd one is given 6 months after the first shot. You should then be tested for the antibody 60-90 days after completing the series. I started the 2nd series of vaccinations while on treatment at my docs request. :)
I asked that question and was told they don't right now know the amounts of the other drug in conjunction with the protease inhibitor. They don't even know which drug will work best. I will have to take my chances when and if the problem arises. In the mean time let's just hope it comes in 3 years so those of us who are waiting will have a chance to clear too.

Went for my yearly check at U of M (Dr. Schiff)
If you remember last August 2004, I posted that a new treatment would be available in 3-5 years per Dr. Schiff. Well, this time I was told it will be 3 years (Maybe sooner) and it is a protease inhibitor. The reason it won't be available for a few more years is that they are trying to figure out what meds to use it in conjunction with for best results. Interferon, Ribavirin or something else and the name escapes me. So for all of you that aren't on TX right now, don't despair, the new treatment will be along soon. BTW- I can't take Interferon because of my Cardiac Arrhythmia's. Asked again on Tues. and they still refused to. They want me to wait, to be safe. I'm a 1b with a viral load of 734,000. (Aug2004) We'll see what the new blood work has to show. We didn't do a viral load this time because it really doesn't mean much in my situation.
Just wanted to let everyone know...

I had the A/B vaccines and they did'nt delay tx. Actually it was a combo vaccine and I think it was three shots. frank
thanks for your info....I did not get the shots today...the murse at the health unit suggested I wait and ask my questions to the Doctor because she couldn't answer them....but she did say that if you get vaccinated for a and b there would need to be a blood test to see if it worked because of the reduced immune system from the c...this is an alphabet virus!! lol
Beth
Beth,
I have started and am continuing to get my hbv and hav immunizations while on treatment. There should be no problem.
Smiles, Sue
I only had 3 shot too, 1 for A and 2 for B. I did the first 2 the same time I did my first shot of pegasus. I did the second shot of B a month later while on tx.

enigma....thanks for the info on upcoming treatments....because this new treatment will still have interferon as part of the compound will that mean it's not for you because of your arrhythmia? If so, how will you get treated?
Vaccine for Hep A and B
I have an appointment this afternoon at the Health Unit to start the process of being vaccinated for A and B...I just wondered, if they start this today, and it takes 6 months to complete, is it something I can continue if I am on treatment or will they delay treatment until the vaccines are complete? Anyone have any experience with this?
Once again many thanks Beth *smile*
I apologize if I am wrong but you sure do seem to be trying to sell everyone on alot of things here and take up alot of threads for nonsense. I haven't noticed too much hepatitis talk from you, maybe I missed some stuff while I was gone. Care to update me? TX ? viral load ? medications? or just your herbs ?
I see how that could be a problem. sorry about that. still learning the ropes.
You may not be aware, but this discussion group is different from most in that we are only allowed a limited number of new posts every day.
For that reason, best to limit any new posts to Hepatitis C topics, and even then, think twice before opening new topics too often.
What a lot of people do is to tack their post onto someone else's post. Unlike at most discussion groups, this is encouraged.
