I was faced with this very question some few months ago when planing a trip to Central America (Costa Rica). I had inquired within the CDC.gov web site and many other sources, but ultimately it came down to a visit to the Health Dept. and both my GI doctor and my General Practitioner, who happened to have a friend in a large disease prevention and treatment center.
They concluded that Doxycycline was probably the safest anti-malarial they could prescribe for me with my liver condition.
They understood that I was undergoing treatment for Hep-C at this time and said there was very little risk of a bad reaction to the additional medication if taken as directed.
I ended up having to cancel my trip due to other reasons but am glad I had done this research in order to possibly be of some help to someone here. Good luck and have a safe and fun trip!

Well...First...How you doin'? I hope very well!
Thanks for asking about me and for updating all the stats on everyone so often. It's a lot to keep up with, but it is interesting. Please post the link again to your mini Hep-C site for all the new folks here.
Okay, this is the real deal...
I am a 3a and in my 22nd of 24 weeks, thank goodness. I feel so badly for all of you who are having to go twice this far and even more so for those who have relapsed. So far I'm doing fairly well, and have my last lab work with viral load scheduled for whenever I want to do it in January. I'm still a little nervous about the next few follow ups, although I did clear at week 12.
I'll keep you posted on my progress. Oh, and my wife and I are at least going to Florida for a week in place of my postponed trip to Costa Rica. Not a bad trade off.
I really hope you and yours and all of the Hep-C familys here have a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR !
