Which lotion works the best for you? Now that we have passed the summer and fall seasons and as you fire up the old gas furnace or wood stove in the coming days the moisture will be sucked out of the house and you will start to feel like a flee ridden dog. It’s bad enough during treatment to have your skin turn into alligator hide from just a warm shower but when there is no moisture in the house it makes it worst with the snap crackle and pop of every twist and turn you make.

So what’s in your medicine cabinet?

Well I am still liking Gold Bond Ultimate and almond oil after shower.  But I have eucerein, the good smelly from body shop, so I smell pretty!    Ya know Jasper the rapper,  I am not sure if any thing works long term,      Kind of like shampoo, you have to  shake it up sometimes, mix and match,

So do tell, whats in yours?

I have some great stuff I stocked up on when last in Cairo.  Sorry but the label is written in arabic script so I can't give you the brand name but it works very well.  When I run out of that I'll go back to the Yardley of London Oatmeal and Almond lotion, assuming I can find more of it.  Neutrogena is good too.

Bath & Body lotion but you'll smell girlie girl. They make products for men too.  (I think)
I bathe with it and lather up afterwards.  Skin is one of the few good things I have left!!!

I tried several, the Gold Bond green top had too much menthol for me. Coconut oil DID NOT HELP ME!! BAD NITE!!(sorry rock) Aveno was Ok, tried a couple of Jergens, they were fair. Have settled (for now) on Cetaphil in the jar, not pump. We get it from Amazon, $22 for 2 jars, no shipping(cheaper than Wal-Mart) I use about a jar per week(maybe a little more) and have found thar I MUST apply it TWO times a day to keep the BEAST at bay. Miss a morn or two and have to break out the steroid cream to get hot spots back down. This is not pleasant for me as I loathe the greesy feeling. jerry

I exfoliate my skin well and regularly. Then I use heavy organic body butters and organic lotions. I also have my own mixture of shea butter and VCO with a few drops of patchouli and rose essential oils. These oils are very good for damaged and mature skin. This works wonders in the nostrils and on very dry skin. Also if you can get a body butter with cupuaca butter in it. I prefer not using any lotions which have chemicals, parabens, alcohols, etc in them. And most commercial creams do. I had my brother bring me Gold Bond from the US, I have not used it once. It smells too chemical.

It is best to put lotions and creams on your body, when it is still moist from the shower/bath, as they help lock in the moisture.

Trini, They say you shouldn't use scented stuff,  harsher for skin.   Jerry I get the back thing also Only thing  that works for me is Gold BInd, NOT the green,  The Ultimate,

But sometimes  you just have to find something pretty!

Though the campher is very good for your skin.In Walter Reed they gave me stuff  some lotion with no steroids in it, I tis called Sarna,  I use that for bad days.   My spots are starting to work around my ribs to the front, they are no fun!  I have done that as well Jerry, Aloe is also a good one!

Jd the best one I used  was from Israel,   Can't find anywhere!

take a step back...what kind of bath soap are you using? Because hubby has been skin sensative since I've known him, we switched back to the hippy stuff, Dr. Bronner's. Neither of us has skin irritation, both are on tx, and the castile soap does not leave soap scum in the shower...good stuff...

After two kind of rashes and a diagnosis of DERMATITIS, XEROSIS, PRURITIC DISORDER, and SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS from a dermatologist,  I am using Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, Sarna Sensitive Anti-Itch Lotion, and Aveeno Daily Moisturizer with sunscreen for my face.   For about a week I also used good old Petroleum Jelly on top of the others, despite how it felt, on the recommendation of my dermatologist.  My skin was in really bad shape at that time and it WAS worth it!   In the shower I use Head and Shoulders, Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Lotion, and then Aveeno Shower and Bath Oil.  For my nasal passages and corner of mouth sores I use Boroleum, which I mentioned previously in another thread and Ihave used it for years.  I plan on getting a humidifier very soon now that the temp is dropping and the heat is on more regularly.

Gotta agree with GSDgirl on this one... sesame oil.  My husband tried it once and it was all over.  (And of course, he loves that the ladies say he smells "nice"... lol).  In the summer, if the sun gets too hot on the oil-on-skin, he uses a cocoa/shea butter combo during the day.

jdwithhcv:  I used to be a big fan of Yardley's -- if you like them, you gotta try the Olay Body Wash with Almond Oil -- really nice.

Like many others, I use VCO and it helps.  I got some skin infections during and right after treatment and my doctor prescribed silver sulfadiazine cream.  It helped with the itching as well as the infections.  I think that there are people who don't tolerate it well, but I loved it.  I also took hydroxine, and that seemed to help.  I dreaded taking baths durng treatment, especially in the winter, because I would itch so badly afterwards (the folks around me did kind of insist upon it from time to time though...)

I only started tx but I've been using Cetaphil lotion every morning. Its greasy, but seems to do the job. I have very sensitive skin especially to perfume and it is fragrance free. So far it seems to be working. I also use a humidifier in my bedroom as soon as the heat goes on in the fall. Helps with the sinuses.
