Massive HCV infection trial over in Spain - Dr sentenced to life

Hello there
here's a summary link of the trial that just finished in Valencia, Spain, it lasted 9 years.
Dr Maeso, (a morphine addict)(a spanish House sorta speak) the anesthesiologist that infected 198 people with HCV in different hospitals cause he used the syringes prior to surgery has been sentenced to 1993 years in jail & 1 million euros in damages (although he would only have to finish 20 years - a life sentence).
Valencia's regional social security will distribute 20 million euros among all impacted patients & will not appeal the sentence.
Of the 198 patients, 4 have died so far of HCC.

This sets a precedent for all nosocomial infections in the world ocurred after 1991. Maybe this could be helpful for those patients that acquired it unknowingly in hospitals in the US (without IVDU and could document further suits in other massive trials around the world). For instance, they were able to identify the source thru DNA secuencing. A signature genotype sorta speak.
