Ina
again not sure of association between elevated serum hyaluronan levels and these hyaluronic acid supplements

hyaluronic acid supplements have been recommended our family and mentioned in other posts on board

concern these upplements may  produce elevated serum hyaluronan

see
J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 1996 May;11(5):459-65
Clinical significance of serum hyaluronan in patients with chronic viral liver disease
findings suggest that elevated serum hyaluronan levels are closely related to the severity of liver fibrosis. We assessed the predictive value of serum hyaluronan in differentiating cirrhosis from chronic hepatitis, constructing receiver operating curves; we found that serum hyaluronan was a better test for diagnosing cirrhosis than serum type IV collagen 7S domain and laboratory liver tests.

CONCLUSIONS: Serum hyaluronic acid, 7S domain of type IV collagen and AST/ALT ratio measurement may be clinically useful as markers of hepatic fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis.

ON 07/13 i WAS ADVISED BY THE V/A RHUEUMATOLGY CONSULT THAT I TESTED
HEPC AB POSITIVE (HCV REPEATEDLY POSITIVE).

I WAS FLOORED AS I DID NOT FIT ANY OF THE PROFILES THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH SAME.

THE DOCTOR SAID THAT THEY WOULD NEED MORE TEST TO CONFIRM AND A HCVQLRN  (HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS TEST WAS)WAS ORDERED.

THE RESULTS CAME BACK TODAY AND  THE VIRUS WAS NOT DETECTED. iT WAS A FALSE POSITIVE READING.

I WAS WONDERING HOW ON E CAN HAVE A FALSE POSITIVE READING, I WOULD THINK IT IS EITHER IN THE BLOOD OR IT WAS NOT.

I WAS AMAZED TO FINE THE POST REGARDING HYALURNOIC ACID AS THREE WEEKS PRIOR TO THE BLOOD TEST I STARTED ON A PRODUCT CALLED H.A. JOINT FORMULA WHICH CONTAINS 150 MG OF HYALURNOIC ACID AS WLL AS HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN TYPE II 900 MG PER 3 CAPSULES.

COULD THIS BE THE REASON FOR A FALSE POSITIVE READING?

THANKS
DENNIS

not sure if this could happen in non hcv healthy liver

how sensitive was the test done? you want to do a real sensitive test that goes down to at least 50 IU/ML, you want to make sure is not a very low viral load that is not getting detected. Get copies of the test, if it is not sensitive enough, ask for a new one.

here is what I see on the ab results
Crp: 0.4 CCp Ab 3 units

C- Reactive Protin Reference Range: Less Than 0.8 md/dl

How do I determine if this is not sensitive enough,

Thanks
Dennis

what lab did the test? I am familiar with Quest and Lab Corp Polymerase chain reaction test and what you mentioned sounds more like an antibody test. But if the second antibody test is negative I guess there could be a third test for a tie breaker? This site* explains the more sensitive tests and their names. If it was me, I would ask for a third antibody test done at a different lab.  There are some labs that are doing tests that have a high incidence of false positives. Find out what the test name is in both by calling the labs.
