Medical Alert Bracelets?

by lilmoma, Dec 11, 2005 12:00AM
Should we wear medical alert bracelets, or something, so that if we are ever in a medical emercency and are unable to speak for ourselves, those docs or EMTs will be aware? Or what if we are on tx and cannot speak for ourself. I was wondering about this, and was curious if anybody had an answer.

I agree with you that a bracelet is a good idea.  The study I am in has provided me with a card I keep with my drivers license that states I am currently in a study program, in case of emergency to please contact.........

I gave one to my sweetie in case he needs to contact my corrdinators too in the event of an emergency.  I would hate that if I could not speak for myself that I could possible miss my meds.  I am sure you could buy a blank bracelet and have it engraved.

Good luck & merry Christmas!

It's not a bad idea at all but hopefully in this world of today universal precautions SHOULD be practiced - although you couldn't really tell it by any of us ;-)

I've never seen one but if it was cute would probably wear it!  ;-)

I'm a wise guy can't help it I'm a New Yawka.

I had much the same thought when first diagnosed.  I also have a seizure disorder, but that's a LITTLE more apparent when/if it happens, lol.

I gave about 2 seconds' consideration to a MedAlert bracelet and decided that was not do-able for me, Miss Fashion Statement in her bathrobe most days, heheh.  So off to the jewelry store I went.  They have charms which can be engraved.  I now have a small one with the MedAlert symbol on one side and necessary info on other.  Works good, looks good.

I thought this would be excellent in case of some sort of accident and well-meaning passerbys contaminated themselves not thinking.  I would feel terrible if that happened.

I AM REALLY HATING THIS DISEASE NOW, by the way.

The other, albeit less altruistic, concern is the meds we take and their effects. If I needed emergency care and the ER did a CBC, they'd probably just take me out back and shoot me when they saw the lab results.

I've been meaning to print a card for my wallet with all my meds listed. Like Jim, I came into this taking pretty much nothing - now I could fill a dance card with my meds!
