Meds for sore throat and swollen glands/Anyone get Bloody Noses???

My daughter woke up with a terrible sore throat and swollen glands...Just wondering what is safe to take while on treatment?? I know most cough meds have alcohol in them...Any suggestions??? Also, anyone get bloody noses??? She got three or four this past weekend...She had gotten them before treatment several years ago, but had nasal surgery and they stopped...Could this be from treatment??? Any help would be great. Hope everyone had a good weekend.
