here is a link who talks about the study
http://www.eagle-min.com/faq/faq93.htm
the only research with proof of hcc prevention i found is with selenium supplements 0.2mg per day
i am not home so i cannot link the study
they have tried it in china on a complete town or region and saw a big decline on hcc, when they stopped the selenium after years the hcc rate turned back to normal
this was on hbv but i guess it is about the same as on hcv since hcc is due to oxidation, free radicals and dna damage and selenium should prevent this, it has also a small boost on immune system
I backed off of this supplement when a report came out that it could negatively impact blood glucose levels and possibly make insulin resistance worse. They may come up with more research that refutes this but that is what I recently read and so we stopped using it for now. I miss the good nights rest I was getting with it but we are trying to improve insulin resistance not make it worse.
My husband has hep c and cirrhosis which seems to cause insulin resistance, I just have an inherited risk of diabetes.
If they find this not to be true, I will gladly take 3 mg at night again because it really did help me sleep. Even if I didn't get enough hours of sleep, I felt decently rested. Joe didn't seem to notice anything when I quit giving him Melatonin. Interferon and riba have taught him to just roll with the punches. It sets the misery bar pretty high. Lesser stuff just doesn't even hit the radar anymore. :>)

Melatonin is a nautrally produced by our brains to help us sleep. We produce a lot of it when we are young, but as we age our brains produce less and less of it. That is why many older people sleep for only 2 -3 three hours and then wake up. I believe melatonin has been believed to be a healing agent because when the body is ill, it can be more easily restored during sleep. Melatonin can't heal us, but our bodies are more able to fight off disease when it is well-rested. I take 3 - 6 mg of it each night. Without it, I would not be able to sleep my 8-9 hours each night. Because my HC makes me so tired, it feel it is very important that I get adequate sleep each night so as not to over-burden my system. But, there is absolutely NO proof that melatonin can heal anything. I use it as part of my treatment protocol and it is very successful for me in that regard.
I would say , like any other supplement. I read somewhere, about following procedure for additional cure.
it is also written in englisth so that everybody can read it.
I found it usefull, and i already found some of things there, and I am using it!
Obviously is not a cure. I meant as prevention of HCC and Cirrhosis or treatment for early HCC combined with something else...
antifibrotic, antioxidant, boot immune system a little, help for sleep, this is something research found so it makes no harm but it is not a cure for any illness
