Missed (1) Incivek Pill

About an hour and a half  ago I looked on the table and saw (1) Incivek tab just lying there looking at me.
Apparently, I had missed it some time today. It scared me so badly I grabbed it and
sucked it down with a hot dog.

After I thought about it I wasn't sure that was the correct action in that I don't know when it was missed.
I know it was missed today, but I don't know if it was my 6am or 2 pm dose. Now I realize my 10 pm dose
is going to be real close to that single pill. I'm only on my 9th day of treatment. I have many alarms going off
all over the house, but I really seem to have some difficulty focusing.

From now on I will be writing down the time I take each dose so I can establish a habit.I find that five min after I take the med I can't remember it I took it. I'm running around double checking all day.

I will be making myself a dosing area so  that clutter won't get in the way of a dose. I've been trying
so hard it's got to be some kind of brain fog of something. I saw the pill earlier but it didn't even phase me.

Yesterday, I thought I had thrown my Riba away. I was in a panic.

I need HELP!!!

You will be fine, just take your normal dose at 10.00 pm. They had a trial where they gave much larger doses so one extra will not hurt you.

BTW, i would have done the same thing,   I grabbed it and
sucked it down with a hot dog. To Funny.:)

Please don't panic.  Vertex also ran trials where they just dosed two times a day instead of three.  I'm sure you'll be fine.  Just take your pills tonight and get back on schedule tomorrow.  It is highly unlikely that this will have any impact on your tx at all.  I would hazard a guess that you won't do this again :)

LoL...

You will be fine, however if you grow a second head I believe the protocol is to call the vertex hot line.. :0)

In all seriousness you will be ok ..just try not  make it a habit..
Good luck...

Reva: I would have reacted the same way you did. Concur with the above comments. Cheers, GB

Curious if you have a pill dispenser, one with three compartments for all your pills throughout the day.  If I left pills out on the table, they would easily get lost of pushed aside and possibly not taken.  You don't want to miss any more doses, so if no pill dispenser, I'd get one pronto.  Just a few bucks at the drug store.

If you already have one, please disregard  :-)

At least it was just one! I almost missed doing one night....I had eaten my fat and just laid back on the sofa for a second. Next thing I knew it was an hour later and there sat the pills! I quickly ate a bit more ice cream and took the pills. Disaster averted!
You won't forget again....trust me :-)

Writing my doses down was the only thing that ultimately helped me. For some reason the alarm, the pill case and all that stuff were things I could just never incorporate into my schedule.

It is crucial you establish some type of routine that works for you. It was not until I had 9 days of Incivek left that I discovered I was 7 days short. In other words, I went through a period were I more than double dosed that particular medication. In the beginning it may have been because I was sick after I took it but most of all it is because I was unorganized.

Incivek was kind enough to send me another box but still. I am betting that's what may have contributed to my Anemia, but who knows....

I thought all Incivek pills came in those bubble packs which are labeled and which have enough pills for one week.   They have 3 pockets of  pills (two pills each pocket) in a row vertically and 7 pockets of 2 pills each in a row horizontally.

I started on a Monday so every Monday morning I marked that week's  packet of pills. I not only wrote the day of the week at the top of each vertical row, but I also marked the dose time beside each set of two pills.

Mon      Tue     Wed    Thur     Fri     Sat     Sun
6  a       6 a      6  a     6 a       6 a     6 a     6 a
2  p       2 p      2  p     2 p       2 p     2 p     2 p
10 p     10 p    10p      10 p     10 p   10 p    10p

I just left the pills in the bubble packet until it was time to take them. Then I popped the pills out of the bubble pack for that particular time. I laid the packet right on the kitchen counter where I could not miss it. My Riba were in a pill dispenser nearby.

I think you are supposed to leave those Incivek tabs in the bubble pack until you take them. I do not think you are supposed to leave them exposed to air or even in a pill dispenser. In fact, I not only left them in the bubble pack, but I also put the bubble pack back in the box (after I had the days and times marked on them) until I actually took them.

Up this morning with a clearer mind ...

I remember now, lol. The Riba came in the weekly bubble pack and it had 7 horizontal rows and 2 vertical rows. I marked them for each day.

The Incivek came in a box containing 7 days worth of pills. (Total of four of these boxes per month.) In each box were 7 bubble packed cards containing one days worth of pills. These were the cards I marked with Mon., Tue., Wed., etc. and with 6 am, 2 pm, and 10 pm.

I should not post in the evening. My evening posts are only "half there."

I think we've all been through that kind of experience. I had to use multiple reminders to keep track, and I also couldn't remember 5 minutes later whether I had taken the pill. I kept them in pill dispensers with multiple compartments, I put a set of daily alarms on my phone to remind me (and had to start keeping my phone in my pocket at all times to be sure I heard it, so no clothing without pockets), and I also kept a list of all my daily meds that I could check off as I took them (I did this on my phone too). In spite of all of that I still managed to almost screw up twice, but thankfully my husband was also asking me all the time if I'd remembered, and the rest of my system made it possible for me to answer correctly whether I had or not. Good luck in getting your own fail-safe system worked out. It's a great excuse for buying a smart phone if you can afford one, and/or a cheap used one without actual phone service works just as well for these purposes if the latest smart phone with service is too pricey.

All your ideas, and the other ones up here, are good ones. I cleared out a cubboard, just for my meds. I keep the Riba in one of those monthly cubicle calendars, so they are counted out, 6 a day. And I take Victrelis, which comes in it's own mini daily pill bottle, and it comes with a little Mon~Sunday calendar on the bottem, so I have a daily bottle of pills.
But still...the other night, my alarm never went off, and I ended up taking my 4 Victrelis pills over 2 hours late, I felt terrible! I just got on schedule, as quickly as possible...every 8 hrs!

I once commuted to NYC for work and realized I left my afternoon dose at home...I just turned right around and headed back home to pick up my little magic pills (Incivik) and start my commute again. I have taken late doses many times and so far I am UND at 4 - 12 and 24 and am currently waiting for June to test for SVR post 6 months treatment - fingers crossed. So don't worry, this Incivik stuff is pretty powerful and once you are loaded up, your blood is a killing field for the Hep C wild virus.

I've basically been following your method.
I will however tweak it a little with some of you suggestions to
write on the back of the pack. That will hep greatly.

Thanks again!!

My Riba comes in a medicine bottle.
I've put it in a daily case.
I would really mess up just trying to take straight out of the bottle.
All these tips are great.
