Mono-Hepatitis

I was diagnosed with mono in January 2006.  During the mono my liver enlarged and liver enzymes (LFTs) went very high for about 2 months then came back down to normal.  I have had URQ pain under the right rib cage during the mono and that pain continues today.  I have had ultrasound and CAT scan of the abdomin (abdomen)/liver that show unremarkable.  I really want this pain to go away, I have tried being patient for so many months now.  Maybe its the capsule around the liver that hasnt fully healed yet, I dont know.  My doctor did tell me to stay off alcohol for 1 year after the mono.  I am not a big drinker but does the 1 year mean the liver isnt healed yet?  Has anyone experienced similar URQ pain post-mono?  thanks.

I was wondering for awhile if mono had anything to do with HEP. I don't know what mono is, other than contagious liver inflamation (inflammation)? I'm guessing. Does it have anything to do with hepC?

I've seen some recent threads down about 100, discussing URQ pain and they were scary, talking about blocked bile ducts, and stints.

I don't know what kind of diagnostic procedure you would need to figure this out, but my guess would be an MRI with contrast dye. Maybe someone who knows will see this but you would've gotten more response from the people who've gone through this if you woulda named your thread "URQ Pain".

I was wondering what kind of doctor is ignoring your pain? Maybe you need to get a referal to a GI?

It's an enhanced MRI, I had one on my brain. (why do I say these things out loud). They are far more detailed than a regular, and can give info to delete things such as MS. Must be costly down there, dont know how you guys manage. I've finally begun to value Tommy Douglas and his medicare system. (doesn't mean a thing to all you, does it). Well, my hands are in the air a lot reading your posts too. For being so close, we sure are aliens, huh?

How do you test the valves and ducts?  IS there a way to see if they are functioning properly?

Sue, hepatitis is quite common with mononucleosis. Just google mono and hepatitis.  I was tested for the entire Hepatits group A,B,C etc.  All negative.  I had classic mono-hepatitis where the LFTs (AST, ALK, etc) became elevated for about 2 months then slowly came back to normal.  I am just left with the URQ discomfort under the right rib cage.  The doctors cant pinpoint and said last thing I could try is a nerve ending test.  Sounds like a longshot to me.

No . You. I have enough stuff to google.

Just tell me can someone have both HepC and Mono, cuz my AST and ALT are kinda high even though I'm TX'ing.

I hope your valves and ducts are OK, becaust that would explain the pain.

In 1970 my boyfriend got non-A, non-B, Hepatitis from IV drug use. I received a gamma globulin shot to keep me from getting it. I was sick for 3 months with what they called mono. Fast forward 30 years, and I get diagnosed with chronic Hepatitis C. My GI believes I got it from the gamma globulin. Makes sense to me! This is the first time I've heard anyone else relate mono to Hep. Now I don't feel so crazy! Or as crazy, I should say. I think they've used mono as a catch all for infections that they can't put their finger on. I do remember my pediatrician saying that I may develop liver problems later in life. I think he was on to something there. I've always had minor pain in that area. Back in the day, I used ice. Maybe that could help you, too. I don't think it could hurt. Have they tested for Hepatitis C?

Dude do you read your own thread????????????MY first post to you above addressed the issue  (c1) and Morgaina answered in 2nd post (C2)

Sorry for messing up and making a math question out of your screen name was just funnin.

I would get some answers and change doctors if you don't. What kind of doctor are you seeing. (second time for this question) Are you seeing a GI(gastrointeroligist)??

I would open a thread titled something like "URQ PAIN-possible blocked duct or valve Anybody??" and maybe the people who had this problem will see and post. It's slow on the weekends around here (Friday night is shot night for most)so if you do post and don't get a response then re-post monday or Tues. Or goto the archives and search URQ pain--but you will have to go through all the thread titles.
Or google Gallbladder, bile duct, stint repair- or liver valve blockage.
Good luck --I did have that pain twice now in 4 mos and it was painful and scary.
