Monthly cycles

I am 6 weeks into treatment with Interferon and ribosphere.
I have always been very regular however I have noticed since started treatment, I have not had a period. Is anyone else out there had any issues with it.

I am on treatment week 52 and have not had one since the first month of treatment either but I was 50 so I thought that was the reason.

There is a definite interaction of interferon with female hormones, I'm guessing estrogen.  The pharmaceutical companies have studied testosterone levels during treatment but not female hormone levels (figures, doesn't it).  I was post menopausal but had uterine fibroids, a condition that is made much worse by high estrogen levels.  The fibroids shrunk dramatically a few mos. into treatment and hopefully will never come back.  Also lost most of my body hair, which I think may also be related to a hormonal imbalance caused by treatment.  I have often wondered if the common hair loss (associated with interferon) in both sexes may be caused by lack of normal estrogen levels.

While I was txing mine vanished for about 4-5 months. After tx it came back.
Im 54 it should be gone anyway....I will be the only senior citizen that still has my cycle!

From what I hear many peoples's cycle leave during tx.

Best of luck to you,
Charm

I treated for 72 weeks and starting at week 1 never saw my good friend again.  Again that is until a month after I finished treatment! I was so bummed I thought Hey maybe it's gone for good and I won't have to go through all that later in life!!!!!!!!!

Nope no luck darn it!  But it is a good thing that it happens sometimes if you should become anemic it's one less cause to make it worse.  I had extreme anemia and so I guess I"m lucky or my numbers would have been ever lower than they were.

But like a good old friend it comes running on back as soon as you are done with treatment!!!!!!

I was 45 when i started treatment. A few months into tx I ceased having period. I got my period again 5 months post tx.

Many people go into tx induced menopause, it is very common. Some people never get their periods back and others do.

I, for one, am bummed to hear it comes back.  That has been the ONLY GOOD thing about treatment!
Thanks for this thread, good information to know.

I'm here to tell ya....at 47 years old, I  was as regular as clockwork all during my 48 weeks.(and my 8 weeks post)  It always fell when I had my study visits, too.  Going to the vamp, having my friend and being anemic.....not fun.

Everytime I complained, my nurse would tell me I was the only one at my center still having them, but mostly because they were all post menapausal.  Made me feel special...not, lol!
