you got a lot of good advise and some not so good....so...
please don't use peroxide or alcohol based mouthwash products it will make things worse. They dry out bleach and irritate tissue and won't help things heal. Salt water is ok.
and DO NOT use nystatin..PLEASE DON"T...it is very hard on the liver. Read up.
my sores cleared when I got a deep root handplaning and took a course of amoxicillin.
I'm not sure if it was all the cleaning and extra hygiene, or the amoxicillin as well, but all the lichen and other stuff I had is gone. I also had them pull one questionable tooth. You do what you must to keep infections from taking hold. They gave me mouthwash to keep my mouth tissues wet...but I really haven't needed it after the above measures.
The key to keeping all the various bacteria and lichens from returning is in the flossing.
Get the christtree bottle brush type flossers, or the one day picks, or whatever works for you but keeping the mouth clean is key because your white count goes LOW while on treatment, and you just won't have anough antibodies to fight off what happens in your mouth if you don't keep it up. I keep toothpicks within reach day and night now and massage my gums. Actually my mouth is in better shape now than in years...it just took a little finessing.

Upper respiratory infection, bronchitis, oral candidiasis, herpes simplex--
If I use salt water to gargle with and use mouth wash with my water pick I don't get them but if I slack off boom they come back and I use campho-phenique!

I am not undergoing any treatment for my Hep C, but I do have it. This past week I have suffered from horrible oral lesions. Went to an oral surgeon, who gave me a special mouthwash & paste to put on the sores.
Am I getting this because I have Hep C, or some other virus in my body? I have never had this before .
Try nystatin, works if it is fungal-related.
It may sound radical but they've been having success with thalidomide with HIV people.
dointime.

I beleived that he did not cheet on me, but 2and a half years later am not so sure, as he is giving the impression that he cheets on me regular! please help, I need the truth to get my confidence back. thanks
I have sores on the front part of my tounge and they hurt like mad. I cant taste anything and when i eat or drink it hurts.there are 5 white bumps in a row going down and 2 on each side i have tried some stuff but am not sure what else there is.I dont even know what this is.PLEASE HELP ME!I feel so bad and to make matters worse im sick too.what should i do?
I've suffered off and on with the mouth deal. At first when it started happening, I was about 6 or 7 weeks into treatment and it would come and go. My tougne started getting very sensitive and my food was not tasting like anything. For some reason I thought this would go away or at least get better but it hasn't. My mouth tastes like metal. My toothpaste burns and my whole mouth seems has the feeling like I drank very hot soup or coffee. I don't taste my food much at all. This feeling is weird and annoying. I need to change my toothpaste to a very mild type. This is getting worse on week 16.

Stay as calm as possible ~ you have very very good chances to show clear at your 6 month point. The test will come back and it will be what it is and no one can change that.
Think positive and don't drive yourself nuts thinking about the wrong thing. Just keep thinking "in 97% of cases of post-tx relapse, it happens in the first 12 weeks".
The odds of not relapsing are in your favor!
I apologize for not reading this thread before responding to your post below. If you are still having these problems ignore my suggestion that it will resolve. I too have researched this subject although it has been some time ago. I seem to recall that people do have this problem and no one seems to know what it is or how to treat it. Nevertheless I'd try to get some help somewhere. I'm sorry you are still having this problem. On hep c test: I think you will be clear on this test. I can tell you my relapse happened within weeks of stopping. I went from clear to 6.8 million IU/ML in less than a month. I would stay as calm as possible and think positively about the test. I'm rooting for you. Mike
Thankyou much folks. Mostly for making me feel I'm not alone with the mouth sores. Somehow that seems more important than the solution for the sores.

Magic mouthwash, it's a miracle drug. good luck
Its interesting to hear all this talk about mouth sores.Have only been diagnosed with hep c for 6 weeks but about 4 years ago these spots came up on my tounge(white rings with red centers). The doctor first called it thrush, ordered all sorts of tests. She said its always a sign of an underlying illness. So after a colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, tounge biopsy, and more(not to mention several thousand dollars in medical expenses they come up with something called geographic tounge(I think it was more like, don't know what this is so lets call it geographic tounge) but anyway now I really believe it may be connected to the hepc. The oral lichen planus pics I have seen look exactly like it.Go figure!

Hey Lori, I know you are really feeling freaked out right now, but maybe it will make you feel better to know that in 97% of cases of post-tx relapse, it happens in the first 12 weeks. In the meantime, I never see doctors take cultures anymore and that is the one thing that could possibly identify your problem. You don't need to have hep to have an imbalance in your system. There are also dietary concerns if it should be yeast. You need to really cut out sugar and lower your carb intake. If you can talk to a nutritionist it may help.
Take care, take an AD, and know we are all here for you.

I had the mouth sores for about a week. Haven't come back since. I rinsed my mouth with a salt water solution that seemed to help.
I have the same issue....it is horrible on my elbows and my mouth is not as bad. I was prescribed "magic mouthwash" from my GI. It is a mixture of maalox and lidocaine and purified water....I am not sure if there is anything else in the mix...most pharmacists know what it is. It works for me....best of luck.
ive struggled with them all thru tx. very painful to have blister like sores on the tip of your tongue. my whole tongue is sensitive and gets raw very easy. i use a solution of food grade peroxide mixed with water that seems to help. ive never bought any of the other products ive seen recommended for it except biotene toothpaste.
