My dad has Hep C and cirrhois liver

Hi everyone. This question might have already asked by somebody but let me raise again. My dad has been found Hep C for six years and now we are told that he has cirrhois liver now. Only couple of months ago, the symptoms have been shown. (swollen legs, private parts, abdomen getting big, eyes and skin color change). About three days ago, he had a severe stomachache and now admitted to hospital. The doctors examined and said that no liver transplantation is necessary at the moment but they suggest to inject albumin to help liver functioning. Any suggestions of cure is much appreciated and can my dad be back to normal again?

I am sorry, I did not realize that you are not in the U.S. I do not know the procedures in your country. I just hope that your dad gets the care he needs.

I am so sorry that your dad is so ill. What kind of doctor told him a liver transplant is not necessary at this time? Most of the time these decisions are based on transplant evaluations done by a special transplant team at a large academic hospital where transplants are done. When he is feeling better you might make an appointment to have your dad evaluated if the doctor who gave him this news is not part of a transplant team.

It does sound like he is in very late stage liver disease. He has swelling called ascites, jaundice, low albumin levels, etc. At this point a cure may not be the best things for him even if he qualifies for treatment. When a person with very late stage liver disease is cured before transplant, it lowers his MELD score and then it takes much longer to get that life saving transplant. Many folks in your dad's predicament are getting listed, getting the transplant and then curing the hepatitis.

Of course, I am not a doctor, and I am guessing at the state of his liver disease just from what you have said. Please make sure he was evaluated by the right people. I wish your dad the best.
