I've just come back from seeing the Hepatologist and I finally have all my test results.
Geno type - 2b
HIV - Negative
Hep A/B - Negative
Autoimmune Disorders - Negative
Copper levels etc - All in the normal range.
Treatment - 24 weeks. Should commence early December as it will be school holidays and I won’t be back at work until the end of January. Perfect timing for me. He said there was an 85% success rate and I know it can go either way but I’m hopeful. He said that there was a lot of government bureaucracy to get through before treatment starts.
Triphasic CT Liver scan results:
No evidence of cirrhosis or portal hypertension with normal spleen size and no ascites.
No focal lesion with no evidence of an HCC.
The gallbladder appears normal. No biliary dilatation.
The pancreas and kidneys appear normal apart from a small cortical simple cyst anterior mid pole right kidney.
There are several small lymph nodes in the coeliac region but these are not pathologically enlarged.
There is however one prominent aortocaval node inferior to the duodenum which measures 9mm in short axis diameter. This is a little prominent for normal nodes in this area, however HCV can be associated with some mild lymph node enlargement and given the normal appearance of the remainder of the scan, is likely to be of clinical significance.
No pelvic mass or pelvic lymph node enlargement demonstrated.
The blood tests also showed that I have an iron deficiency. He said it could be due to heavy periods but wants to rule out other conditions so on the 24 September, he is going to perform a colonoscopy and gastroscopy.
These past weeks seem like years of endless worry about everything and anything. After reading stuff on the net, I had diagnosed myself with HIV, auto immune disorder and end stage liver disease. I am grateful that at the moment, I am only dealing with the Hep C and no other disorder. I can’t believe that after 30 years my liver seems to be okay. Now I'm feeling hopeful and starting to relax. Thank you all for your good wishes as well.
