NEURANTIN for short fuses?

hi all,
just came back from the pysc doc. he a half hour late and only saw me fifteen min. this was my second appointment with him ever. 2 weeks ago, on our first appointment he prescribed 100mg of WELLBUTRIN. he said take 1 a day for one week, then 2 in morn. then 1 in evening. as soon as i started the 2 in the morn, i started to get dizzy, upset stomach, headache, jittery. sunday, i only took one due to i couldnt contact him, and didnt wanna just stop. i saw him today and explained the sides, he said just take it slow, no instructions. he then prescribed this NEURANTIN for my short temper problem. he said its an anti seizure drug, but thinks it will help me with my anger. it says take one in am and 2 in pm. theres already a problem fillin it, and he has to fax info, to insurance co. then they contact me by snail mail in a couple days. he also said, i was most likely gettin those sides from the wellbutrin, due to my liver disease, hepc.  has anyone heard of this drug for this situation? do you think i should get another doc? i called my hep doc, and the nurse said he psyc doc knows best.  i dont know what to do. any suggestions would be helpful. i suppose to start treatment next monday.

I have taken Neurontin for nerve pain. And it is used for anti seizures. But as far as a use for "short fuses", I don't know. It works well on the shooting pain from nerve injury that I got in a back surgery that goes down my leg. They are just getting around to checking what all this drug can do. I would check with liver doc and make sure it is not harmful to the liver and would you please post what he says? I am interested in other docs opinions.

MY SHRINK GAVE ME NEURONTIN TOO, FOR SLEEP.
IT WAS TOO STRONG AND LEFT ME DIZZY..
BUT IT DID KNOCK ME OUT.
I WAS ON WELLBUTRIN AT FIRST, WHEN I WAS TO BEGIN TX.
IT MADE MY HEART RACE AND I FELT WAY TOO NERVOUS.
I TOLD MY SHRINK AND ASKED FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
HE DID NOT MIND......GAVE ME CELEXA.
WE ALL REACT DIFFERENTLY TO MEDS.
YOUR SHRINK SHOULD KNOW THIS..
HOPE U GET IT ALL FIXED!
BE WELL,

Neurontin is used for mood stabalization as well as for pain and seizures. It is fairly effective to prevent ourtbursts. I would insist that your doctor give you specifics for instruction or find another doctor. If he is the best and can't communicate, that won't do you any good. Also you can explore your medication yourself on the internet so you can be more informed. Don't be surprised if you sometimes know more than the doctor if you do your homework.
Good luck,
Barb

Just went to an inservice on geodon that was sponsered by Pfizer. Someone asked about a recent lawsuit involving neuroton (gabapentin) Pfizer just purchased the company that manufactures neurontin and the sales rep basically stated that neurotin has been misrepresented to physicians. It is ONLY to be prescribed as an anti-seizure med and for specialized pain management. In the past physicians have precribed it as a sleep aid because it is very sedating. Hope this helps.

Oh... also I guess that some docs precribe neurontin as a mood stabilizer as some anti-seizure meds are effective with bipolar d/o. Not so with neurotin. Do you have bipolar d/o?
