Always take Riba with fatty foods, it increases the absorbtion rate of the Riba. The archives have lots of stories.
I didn't face the fact that I was suffering from severe anxiety (depression) which actually made me sick to my stomach. So I was close to ending tx. I took the Phenergan and was given Clonozapam and Remeron for anxiety. It was tough admitting that I suffered from depression because I've alway been pretty happy about life and had the perception that depression is caused by an emotional imbalance. Now I know it's a chemical imbalance.
This may not be your husbands problem, but the point is that you don't want your husbands sx to worsen simply because he doesn't want to tell his dr. You need to step up and do it for him. If you can, or maybe you already are, you should go with him to his appointments.
I tell you without it - I would have been hospitalized from people thinking I was anorexic...I might not have been able to eat meals of solid food but BOWLS upon BOWLS - and I never got sick of it because there are so many FLAVORS!
AHHHHHHHHH it was GREAT when my thyroid was hyper but now that it's hypo..what am I going to DO about the sugar cravings that I have developed? Did that happen to anyone else?
I was NEVER a desert type eating person but as soon as tx started since all I could really handle eating was a few cookies or ice cream and stuff...I have developed a pure HABIT for the stuff and now just can't STOP!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweets sure are comforting on tx though. It is calming to eat a bowl of ice cream, almost like an anti anxiety pill!
I even just ate a cupcake with about 3 inches of icing with candy corn on top - something that would have nauseated me prior to treatment and caused me to go.....arrrrgh who could eat that much sugar?!! and I washed it down now with a cup of coffee with sugar AND half n half.
I wonder if it's a physical thing or mental?
Forget Jenny Craigs - we'd just be heading straight to the chocolate peanut butter bars she's got on the commercials now. I can see us going well I can have 4 choc bars or ONE fettucini - and you know which would WIN!
(Just KIDDING! Knocking on wood!!!!! hahahaa)
The thing I would advise trying (which helped me) was not eating a "dinner - dinner" but instead eat several smaller type meals throughout the day and then a light dinner at night...or two.
We should take the Riba with food but maybe for a while trying a bland smaller meal might pay off until his body gets accustomed to the meds.
Fortunately - most of us DO in time. I lost 20 pounds in the first few months and then finally levelled out. Thank God now i've gainned it all back and have barely any nauseau at all anymore.
(PS IF all else fails I advise ICE CREAM (ask anybody here that is my secret treatment weapon LOL). It helps coat your stomach and makes it feel better and it's just GOOOOD. We all deserve a treat while doing this that is for sure. :)
