Need advise for my son

My son is 29 years old and has Hep C  genotype 1a since birth.
He had treatment several times over the years.
Always made the Hep. C worse!  The viral load and AST, ALT never came down at all.

Now he has cirrhosis, enlarge spleen, low platelet count, high biliruben.
The Dr wants him to go on treatment again.
What are the odds that the treatment will succeed this time?
Is it a good idea to start treatment with enlarged spleen and low platelet count (128,000)?

What do you thinK?

Thank you

I've had HCV-1a since I was born, went through trials in 1997 and failed due to severe allergy, back then I was level 0. Now I am level 3, began treatment gradually due to allergy which has been controlled with Zyrtec. Platelet count at the start was 113, it is dropping fast but I am hanging on to the treatment. For me losing weight from 200 to 160 lbs has been really helpful (30 lbs lost before treatment, 10 lbs during treatment), also exercising. Zero alcohol since I was first diagnosed in 1994. The drugs have improved a lot since 1997, they are milder on the body yet apparently as strong. I will do everything I can to stay in the treatment to avoid having to go through what others must go through with the suffering and life uncertainties of having to wait for a liver with no other alternative left.

I think he will benefit from treatment again even if it don't work. Studies have shown that treating can sometimes help the liver damage regress some. If not for anything else treatment will give the liver a much needed break.
It is best to see a hepatologist (liver specialist) to treat. Get him seen at a teaching hospital. This is where there will be Hepatologists that have the latest protocols to treat HCV, especially hard to treat cases, i.e. cirrhosis, other med conditions, etc.
Best of luck
