Need advise on transmission, Thanks a lot

Hello everyone

I was wondering if somebody can give some peace of advice on hepc  transmission. I was diagnosed with OCD and tend to become very worried about HIV and HEPC.  Because of my obsessions, I was quite often testing myself for HIV and ended up in situation when STD nurse pricked my finger for HIV testing without using the gloves. After few HIV tests and two HEPC RNA tests, I was relieved to know that I didn’t catch up anything, but here goes my bad luck again – I was going through the door at the train station (thousands people go through this door the whole day) and while trying to open the door, I scratched my hand by small screw in the door. My scratch was very light, superficial on the skin surface and didn’t draw any blood or wasn’t even wet. I tried to push any blood out but there was no blood coming.  Next day I couldn’t even see the scratch. Am I right to assume that if someone with hepc  scratched  himself with the same screw before I did, I still should not be at risk since by scratch was very superficial with no blood whatsoever.  I really can’t again go through another hell of 6 weeks waiting.   Thanks a lot guys. You are so great and helpful

Sorry, I think "Zazza" told you to not to get tested, not "Trinity". But I do agree with Trinitys points a swell, including visiting the OCD forum. You can tell them you were veted here and don't have HCV :)

I think your 40% statistic is overstating it by a whole lot--but even if it's right, just because there are people who don't know how they got it, that doesn't make it "easy to catch." If it was easy to catch, then more people would have it.

If it was easy to catch then my husband (of twenty-seven years) and kids (twenty-six and nineteen) would have it. They don't. I've likely had it forty years.

40% of people with hepc do not know how they get it

More accurate would be that 40% of people with hcv do not tell their doctors how they got it. The vast majority of HCV infections are from IV drug use and blood transfusions before the blood supply became safe. As Trinity suggests, you should forget about HCV and forget about getting tested. Just remember, as soon as you walk outside each day you potentially are exposed to every disease in the world. Few of us have enough time and money to get tested for every disease. And do switch therapists, this one sounds like a real charmer.

Thank you Trinity4.

I will try to move to OCD forum. The only reason, I posted here is to ask if anyone should see any risk in scratching myself against a screw on the door with thousand people touching it daily and possibly few people scratching themselves earlier. I was really scared to learn that 40% of people with hepc do not know how they get it so was thinking that it may be much easier to catch then CDC tells us

MedHelp has forum for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD.)  You could probably benefit more from the support they provide than that of an HIV or Hep Forum.  You know for sure you have OCD but you do not have HIV or Hepc so far according to your test results.
They could offer much more support and advice to you on how to cope when you become fixated on particular issues such as infectious diseases.

I was seeing a psychologist (at least he called himself the one). This guy really made me sick to my stomach. Every session was starting with him saying – “today is $75”   or “today is $150” and for the remaining  45 minutes he was telling me stories about himself,  like “ I (him) had so  many symptoms and never been scared so you shouldn’t be either”.  He never mentioned anything about CBT and was just repeating what my fears are irrational. One day I stand up and told him that my wife tells me the same things for free, paid him his beloved $75  and just walked away. Now I am waiting for appointment with my psycatrist to see if she can recommend someone real

"but I guess you can't keep testing all your life. Or should we?"

Since you have OCD, you should not get tested for hep C at all anymore, unless you start using drugs intravenously and sharing needles. I have OCD too, and know that the measures we OCD'ers take to calm ourselves only work for a short while and then our anxiety comes back even greater.

Are you getting treatment for OCD? Cognitive behavioral therapy?

Thanks a lot. This is what I keep telling to myself. I am not concerned about HIV as I know it won't survive outside of human body for  a long time but hepc got me worried as it can live up to 3 days on a surface. Somebody has told me that if my blood can't get out from my scratch, nobody's blood blood get in either and I should be fine. The reason I worry about HEPC is because catching it during the acute stage would almost garantee the cure but I guess you can't keep testing all your life. Or should we?

Thanks again for your support and I do feel what many on this forum are going through. I really wish everybody to get well. There is defintly a good chances for almost everyone with medical science progression so fast these day.

HCV transmission is blood to blood.

You can't worry about every scratch. Really.
