Don't be afraid, I know you have heard horror stories about the Neupogen and bone pain, but if it keeps you on tx, that is what needs to be done. I told my Hemo that I didn't want those Neulasta shots anymore and he said he would take me off tx. I held out my arm. The sx's were bad, but at least I am still able to tx.
Ask your dr. what level your ANC must be to get the shot. On Interferon we can go lower than other chemo's in our WBC without risk of infection. Mine has been low since the beginning and I haven't had any infections. I have heard that some hep dr's let the ANC go to 300 or .3 before intervening with Neupogen or Neulasta. I have a Hemotologist/Onc who deals with cancer, so I think that is why he has me get it when it above 1000. It has been down to .4 and I am around lots of snot nosed kids and on airplanes...
Each time I've done it, it was a booster regimen, as opposed to a regular tx schedule like my Procrit, where I did a shot a day for three consequtive days with a follow-up CBC lab on the 4th or 5th day.
3X a week is normal to start. If you respond well, I would bet you will be cut back rather quickly. Neupogen works very quickly, unlike Procrit. Are you going to be doing weekly CBC's? If not, I would push for it.
