New Drugs

Article in paper today about Hep C drugs coming out this summer!! Yeppie, I was told May by my doctor but summer will work. It was put out by Associated Press. "2/3 of Hep C sufferers are thought to be baby boomers. {Thats me}. Now major studies show that adding a new drug---either Telaprevir or Boceprevir can boost the cure rate as high as 75 percent. Some people will be able to cut tx time to 6 months. I am assuming here they mean us with GT 1 who as of now would be doing a year with the present drugs. This is all good news and its great to see soemthing in the paper about Hepatitis c.

I saw this article too and glad to read something about it in the newspapers.  Unfortunately the way it's worded I don't think it did much to help with the stereotyping and stigma that goes along with Hep C ... but I guess it's also one of those things that until you have it, you don't really understand anyhow!  I'm relatively new to this site and see my doctor today to see what he suggests my treatment should be.  Anxiety level is high today!!

Good luck to you!

Hi-
Boceprevir and Telaprevir are two direct anti virals that have been awarded fast track approval review with the FDA. Hopefully they will be available in the summer or soon after. They both will be used along with interferon and ribavirin and the success rates are vastly improved for geno 1s as you mentioned.

Many people on the forum have been in clinical trials using these new drugs and have been successful in eliminating the virus. Depending on how quickly you respond to treatment and whether or not you have treated before treatment can be anywhere between 24-48 weeks

Yes this is wonderful news. So many people have been waiting for these drugs and it can't happen soon enough for them.
