New Trial for Vertex

New Trial for Vertex

Is there a  new trial starting in 2008 for Vertex? If so what are the side effects associated with this?
Can one work while on treatment/?

Everyone is just waiting to hear when the new trial will start.  It seems that the side effects of the telaprevir are pretty much the same as with just the ribavirin and interferon, except that some people get a really bad rash. But you will probably only have to do it for half as much time as the interferon and ribavirin alone, and have a better chance of success, so that seems to more than outweigh the rash thing.
There was a post here from someone who is in the current trial saying that her dr. said the new trial would start soon.  Can't remember exactly where that was.
As for whether you can work during it - check the posts about that on .  It seems that the chances of working on the Vertex trial and with the traditional int and riba are about the same.  Well, and it is probably going to be for 24 rather than 48 weeks (we haven't heard about that yet) They are even taking a poll about working - I think it is on the hepatitis community thread, not this one.  I tried to keep working but had to take a leave about halfway through.  Some people never take a day off.  Seems to depend on the type of job and how bad the side effects are.
Lots of us are waiting to hear about when the trail will start.  I'm sure you can find out here as soon as anyone knows.  Good luck.
