New drug, isn't there one out now?

I read in a paper that there was a new drug out that, they say, is a 70% cure rate.  What is it, is it ready to distribute, and what have you heard about it???  I heard that you still have to take the other meds along with this new mediicine. I don't know anything about it, but I bet insurance doesn't cover this new med, and it iwll be EXPENSIVE!!!

Just wondering as my doctors do not want to treat me with the current meds, and my hep c is active and ragin.

There are two new drugs - Telaprevir and Boceprevir.  Yes, you do take the other meds along with the new medicine and it gives higher cure rates. I would bring this up with your hepatologist doctor when you see him next, Dr. Everson? and ask him about these drugs and what he thinks about you doing treatment with these drugs. When do you see Dr. Everson next?

Hi Trish, I can't get in until the 26th, since I have both doctors, Everson and Forman, their schedules have to work, but it's ok except I'm nervous!  I wish they could have fit me in YESTERDAY!

I will ask about these new drugs, definately!  Thanks

The 26th is not so far off although it seems like it when you're waiting.  When you see your Doc, you could also ask specifically about your biopsy results - specifically, what GRADE and what STAGE you are at your most recent biopsy.  That's been unclear in your other posts and it will help us to provide better support for some of your questions if that information is cleared up - gives better context to your situation.  You might also want to write down everything you want to ask about, it's easy to forget something you really wanted to ask and then it's waiting until the next appointment or hoping to get a phone call back.

Good luck on the 26th.

Trish

I did not know about what "grade".  I don't even know what you mean by that.  I do know that the stage was stage1, but I doubt that's the case anymore.  I will find out and I will write it down this time!  That's why I like these forums so much because Iearn so much, and it helps me to learn and know what to ask the doctor.

Also, if they want to do another biopsy (I'm sure they will), I am going to ask why they want to do it through the juglar.
