New side

I am experiencing a side that I have not seen mentioned yet on this site. Does anyone else have problems with dry skin around the eyes?  My eyelids are red, sore, and itchy.  I have tried benedryl, lotions and antibiotic ointments.  Nothing seems to work.  Between the red eyes, my pale skin, and my loss of hair I look very unhealthy right now. My family was very concerned when they saw me on Thanksgiving Day. Also, my scalp continues to itch and flake like crazy regardless of how many dandruff shampoos I have tried.  I am a fright!  Any suggestions?

I did #26 last night and don't think I could have made it this far without finding your support on this site. You guys have helped me through a lot of hard times.  You're the best!

Hey, hope this post finds you feeling well. I'm still having ups and downs...more downs. My question is about the thing you are having w/ your stomach. As soon as I finished wk48, I had a re-check w/ my GP...I told him my stomach hurts all the time, like right in the middle, he knew I had an appointment w/ my liver dr. that same afternoon. My GP gave me something for acid ref.(samples) and told me to show my liver doc what he had given me. Well I did...it's called protonix..and my liver doc said to try them and it should go away in a couple of wks...well it's been 3wks and sometimes they help, but most times not. My liver doc said to let him know if it's not working and he would see if anything is wrong w/ my stomach. I am going to call tomorrow to complain...lol...! Can you tell me if this sounds like what you are going thru? Thanks girl, you're the best! Prayers to ALL Cindee

I had the same thing around my eyes for a few months on tx.  I used opthalmic ointment on it and it cleared up.  Other products can irritate your eyes, unfortunately.

Bodie, I don't think that dry eye is what I have.  It is dry, red skin around the eyes.  The itching is external.  Interesting what you say about the Nioxin.  I used it religiously for about 6 weeks with no results.  It seemed to make hair loss worse rather than better.  Once I quit using it the hair loss slowed a great deal.  I also developed the dry scalp while using Nioxin.  Probably not related at all.  I have done some more research and think I might have a bad case of Seborrhea.  Never a dull moment on tx!

I guess that I will have to chime in and say that the Nioxin  brand of tx's for the hair has helped me the most. I am somewhere between week 15-20 and I haven't lost that much hair and my flakieness went away. At first, I was loosing hair by the literal handfulls on my first tx. I had hair down to the back of my thighs. But I cut 16 inches off and started using the Nioxin regularly and it seemed to stop the hair falling out.
The eyes itching and burning coould be from dry eye syndrome. It comes with the tyroid messing up. Just try some Tears Naturale Free. The one without presevatives. The single use ampule. Put those in when you feel the itchin and see if that helps. I have had dry eye syndrome long before I got dx cause my thyroid was low. If you are on a thyroid med, then it could be the culprit.
Good Luck

I found "ion" alcohol-free hair spray @ a beauty supply. If I used any other hair spray it would leave a rash on my forehead, very red, flaky and itchy. it was about 5.00. Good Luck Cindee

Thanks everyone for the tips.  I am already using antibiotic ointment and that seems to help.  I will try the warm compresses too.  Cindee, I have looked for alcohol free hair spray, but have not been able to find one.  Do you have a brand name you can recommend?

I used Alpha-Keri bath oil throughout tx. That was the best thing I found. I already knew about it...because of skin allergies I had when I was very young. Also remember don't use any products that contain alcohol. I found a few hairsprays w/o alcohol. Hope your rash goes away...and remember water, water, water!!!!! Prayers to you and all. Cindee

ziggy, your eyes may be red from some type of infection due to the flaking, dry skin around your face and scalp getting into your eyes and causing blepharitis. Try a clean warm compress or get some anti-biotic ointment like erythromycin.

Hi Ziggy ~ I had about a month (earlier in tx) when I had the red, scaly, itchy eyelids.  The skin felt like leather.  I cut open a vitamin E capsule and applied the oil to my eyelids when I went to bed every night and the problem finally went away.  I'm not sure if it was the Vit E, or if it was just one of those sides that decided to go away on it's own.  I am on week 28/48.  I also am very fair skinned and have rashes pop up here and there often, but they seem to subside without causing too much trouble.  Good Luck ~ I hope it's one of the sides that goes away quickly for you.
