First of all....congratulations on reaching 48 weeks!

Second, regarding your toothpaste question....

I don't think there are many, if any, consumer products currently on the market (i.e. toothpaste, mouthwash, make-up, skin lotions, etc.) which contain white tea.  However, I think we'll see it added as an ingredient in these and many other products in the months to come, based on this recent research.

White tea is a rare tea produced almost exclusively in China and comes from the same plant (Camellia sinensis) as green and black teas. The descriptive term "white" comes from the high proportion of silvery buds on the plants, which impart a silvery color to the tea. White tea is the least processed of all teas, as it is picked then rapidly steamed and dried rather than fermented or roasted. Researchers believe this minimal processing of white tea yields a higher concentration of polyphenol antioxidants. White tea, in particular, offers high ORAC value.

White tea's primary benefit is as an antioxidant, squelching free radicals. Cancer risk is associated with free radical damage, and it is estimated that a deficient diet may account for as much as 35% of all human cancers. Researchers from the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University (Corvallis, Ore.) have tested white tea's ability to protect bacteria from DNA damage and found white tea to be a much more powerful antimutagen than green tea.1 In additional studies at the Institute, rats fed white tea over an eight-week period, then exposed to the carcinogen PhIP, had significantly fewer PhIP-induced pre-cancerous lesions in the colon than the control.2 Both white tea and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which is found in high concentrations in white tea, have been shown to inhibit beta-catenin/Tcf activity. Beta-catenin and Tcf-4 are involved in the development of colorectal tumors.3

In addition, white tea has been researched as a topical agent, protecting against sun damage and boosting the immune function of skin cells.4 Scientists at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland) applied a white tea extract cream to one patch of skin on the subject's buttock (skin generally exposed to little sunlight), while another area was left unprotected. Both areas were exposed to artificial sunlight and the patches of skin were compared on a cellular level. The white tea extract protected the Langerhans cells, which were damaged in the sun-exposed skin. In the immune system, Langerhans cells are thought of as "watchdog cells," essential in detecting germs and mutated proteins produced by cancerous cells.

The investigators then tested whether the preserved immune system cells in the white tea extract-protected skin would still function properly after exposure to sunlight; they discovered the immune function was, indeed, restored by the extract. They also found that the DNA damage that can occur in cells after exposure to sunlight was limited in the skin cells protected by the white tea extract.

Tnhepguy, thank you again for taking the time to do all that research and then share it with us. It's great food for my very foggy foggy brain.

cuteous, you hang in there. I'm right behind you...well...way behind you I guess...week 23 of 48, 60 or 72...don't know which yet. Anyway, I think about you a lot, as do so many people here. Today it's hard to keep my eyes open (did #23 last night). I feel best when I'm asleep, so I'm going back to bed now.

Everyone have a great day. Judi

White Tea Kills More Germs Than Its Green Cousin

TUESDAY, May 25 (HealthDayNews) -- White tea seems to be more effective than green tea in fighting germs, says new Pace University research.

"Past studies have shown that green tea stimulates the immune system to fight disease," study author Milton Schiffenbauer, a microbiologist and professor in Pace's department of biology, said in a prepared statement. "Our research shows that White Tea Extract can actually destroy in vitro the organisms that cause disease."

"Study after study with tea extract proves that is had many healing properties. This is not an 'old wives' tale,' it's a fact," Schiffenbauer added.

The study was presented May 25 at the American Society for Microbiology general meeting in New Orleans.

The researchers found that:

    * The anti-bacterial and anti-viral effect of white tea is greater than that of green tea.
    * The addition of white tea extract to several brands of toothpaste enhanced their anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.
    * White tea extract had an anti-fungal effect on both Penicillium chrysogenum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
    * White tea extract may help inactivate bacteria, viruses and fungi that affect humans.

Yeah...I just happened to stumble upon that one.  I also found some recent studies which conclude that white tea is effective in protecting people from skin cancer!  Wow...sounds like a good thing to add to our arsenal...whether we're on tx or not.

Thank you Amerabrit, marhope, cuteus, ringeding, hepcgetlost - and everyone for your kind words.

I enjoy searching out info that others may find relevant and useful. And given the conference that just took place in New Orleans, this happens to a particular info 'boom time'.

But the best info of all is reading when others here beat this dreaded disease.

marhope - I do keep gardening. The only problem is all the many friends I have who try and help me. Such as the voles that eat the plants from below. The deer, raccoons, rabbits and birds that eat them from above. The fungi and viral diseases that kill them slowly or quickly. The bugs that carry those diseases. The other bugs that eat the plants and fruit. The fierce winds and rains that flatten everything ...... So many helpers - so little garden left!... ahahahaha. Reality is - I enjoy the heck out of it. And it gives me a great appreciation for what farmers have to deal with year-in and year-out. Hope you are doing well!

cuteus - <b> YEAH!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS ON GOING ALL 48!!!</b> You've done a heck of a job getting there. Now it's just a bit longer as you extend. I'll have the wife back you some interferon brownies, too.

Your research and the wealth of information gathered is most appreciated. I am so glad you did not give up on the forum.  It has been free of negative intervention, email me if you know where the negative went...;-}

Today officially marks the 48 wks of tx, odd that it is not the relief I expected when I started back when. I have now joined an even smaller minority of tx extenders in the search for a cure. Bless be the  brain fog for I don't remember all the bad days.
I will continue on with the aid of the procrit. so far bloodwork and other tests are within normal.
TY everyone for the wisdom, support and humor.  keep it coming for all.
may you all be well
