I will see if I can find them, there were quite a few. I will see where they moved the abstracts to. they are gone from the original site.

Hey Daryl, haven't seen you posting for a long time, things must be good for you and back to normal. Everything okay here, one day at a time, and all that. Bui's doing great and back to work, still tires easily but he just keeps going. Bless his soul. Take care friend.

Cuteus, I'm pretty much computer illiterate, I've managed to print out the articles TnHep has posted but could you give me some pointers as to how to bring up on screen what you have mentioned. Gonna take all that literature to Vancouver next week for the docs to read. (If they will). I will have all my fingers crossed. Thanks.

Landmark FSU study of hepatitis C virus solves mystery that has
stymied quest for cure  Since its discovery several decades ago, the insidious human pathogen has stymied the quest for anti-viral therapies by refusing to reproduce in test tubes for more than a few hours or days, denying scientists an efficient virus production and infection system for experimental esearch.
Now, in a landmark study by Florida State University biologists that could bolster the development of anti-viral therapies for HCV

Good to hear from you. Thanks for dropping in. FWIW, my docs pretty much share the postion of yours. We considered 16 weeks for me, but went 24 because of advanced disease and my tolerating tx pretty well.

I had both tests at 6 weeks post tx.  Was also shedding big time after tx, but that situation has reversed itself.  Stupid shots and pills.  I should be thankful, but I had a very boring summer.
Does anyone know if Artgal has come on in the last few months?  She had the same Dr. as I and he stopped her at 18 weeks (2b) due to sides.
I think I posted this way back, but my doc quoted to me that for type 2b the protocol was 12 weeks pegintron or 16 weeks pegasys for RVR or "super responders."  That is unless your liver is trashed already, then 24 weeks is deemed prudent even with RVR.
At the end of tx with the undetectable, he told me that the percentage of cure was 90%.
Here is my theory: You got rid of the damn virus in less than 4 weeks.  Then you dosed yourself with the same drugs that killed the virus for another 8 weeks.  If it's gone, it's gone.
Just my .02.  Now off to work.

Great to hear from you, especially with the good news! Thanks for the well-wishes and look forward to hearing your 'official' 6-month PCR/SVR. Glad you have all that energy back -- something I'm looking forward to in another ten weeks or so.

Artgal hasn't been here lately, but I saw her posting recently at the Hepatitis unity Forum or Veggie Dip's (aka Vegas) new forum -- not sure if they're one and same, but if you go to Delphi and search under "Hepatitis" you will get a link. If you get there, please give Artgal my best.

You know, I may have Artgal mixed up with Dancegal -- you know the fog -- but it you go to Delphi, you'll at least get a gal :)

First of all, thank you all for your support in my PCR results thread.  I seriously would not have even made the decision to treat if it weren't for this forum.

Strator- you made my day with your post.  Thanks for your excitement and enthusiasm.  It means a lot.  Your turn is next my friend.

TNHEPGuy- I too REALLY enjoy your info threads.  Even if that's ALL you keep up with here, you are doing a great service for all of us on the board.  Please don't kick the habit!

Rifleman- Thanks for the info. about your experience.  I believe that the relapse rate is only 2% points higher for short course than long course tx.  I am 28,f, geno2, High VL but clear at week 4.  Considering short course.  Will probably do 12, then pcr which takes 2 weeks.  That puts me at 14 so  I figure I might finish out that month since I'll have the meds already.  I'm heading toward 16 weeks, just for a little peace of mind!  I appreciate hearing your experience and it is awesome to hear that you are feeling good!!!

I wonder why no one else has repeated this study
http://hcvadvocate.org/news/reports/AASLD_2004/Posters_AASLD_2004.htm#A62
good to see that out of 47 pts, only one relapsed bt month 1 and month 3, and no one else after that.
I wish they would repeat it with a larger population.

this one might interest geno 4
http://hcvadvocate.org/news/reports/AASLD_2004/Posters_AASLD_2004.htm#B8

if you know you are in the acute stage, short tx course, guess from where?
http://hcvadvocate.org/news/reports/AASLD_2004/Posters_AASLD_2004.htm#B65

if you are Hispsnic and geno 2/3, you might need more help than g ones

sorry, can't link. copy and paste is needed.

All this talk about the shorter course of treatment for geno 2's has me wondering...Could my husband be so lucky??? I was a 2 also but did the 24 weeks but if my husband, being a geno 2, post transplant, could do the shorter version, well, wouldn't that be some kind of wonderful??? Don't suppose there has been any studies on transplant recepients and this new way of thinking. Anybody know??? Course, up here in Canada, docs probably haven't even heard of such a thing. LOL

there were a few post transplant studies at the AASLD conference in Boston.  See if you can search them.  I guess anything is possible with geno 2.  If he clears by wk 4, maybe his team might try the new protocol.

let us know, and good luck

I come around every month or so to see how everyone is doing.  Saw the below post re: the 12 week tx where I was mentioned.  For those who are new, I started tx in June 2005.  I was a type 2b w/ starting vl of 1.3 mil.  2-1 on a fibrosure test (or something like that).  Cleared before 4 weeks and went 12 weeks pegintron/1200 riba, finishing in the beginning of september 2005.  Post tx tests were undetectable w/ normal ALT.  Have a 6 month PCR coming up in a couple weeks, which I assume will still be undetectable b/c I feel great, better than I have since my 20's (I am 40).  Nice to have all that energy back and to be able to sit back & have a few beers without worrying about it.  Hope everyone is doing ok, esp. those (jim, bronx, robbetz, etc.) finishing up tx.
