Obsesity and Hep C -- Worse tx outcomes/Faster Fibrosis Progression

Nothing new, but this article underlines that obsesity is associated both with worse treatment outcomes as well as faster progression of liver damage.

Keep in mind that "obsesity" is a medical term, and you do not have to look obsese to be defined as such.

Sometimes being as little as 20 lbs over your ideal weight could be considered obsese, but better to check the charts.

Doesn't this mean that all skinny people definitely achieve SVR? hahahahahahahahahaha (do you remember that brilliant statement that our old friend made?)

Might have paid off to be so skinny for once!

On another note: how you doing?

Can't remember who, but I think someone got their head taken off for suggesting that skinny women have better chances for SVR, but everything else being equal, they do. Now I'll duck :)

Hope this finds you well. Have you seen Dr. J yet? Anything new in your tx decision process?

Thin people can have fatty liver, it has more to do with what you eat and amount of exercise and your genetic code. Fat people can have no fatty liver, thin people can have it. I was told the ultrasound looks for fatty liver, not sure if that is the only test for it.

Thin is definately a positive for a long life. Studies of aged people have proven this over and over so you are ahead of the game. Every notice that people 100 + are thin and spry, often still getting around pretty good? I have, I used to work with seniors and I met literaly 100's of centagenarians and they were all thin. Skinny does work in your favor!

Kalio says: "Thin people can have fatty liver... Fat people can have no fatty liver."..

A lot of people don't realize this but that is correct. However, everything else being equal, the odds are the fat person will have fatty liver over the skinny person.

To your question -- ultrasound may suggest fatty liver but only liver biopsy can confirm it.

I met literaly 100's of centagenarians

So collectively those old farts had 10,000 years under their belts. Or, assuming a reasonable level of regularity, over 3.5 million lietime BMs! At 2 cups per movement, that's 2,406 cubic yards of old folk poo! A dump truck typically holds 6-8 cubic yards. That's a lot of trucks of poo.

The senior ageny threw a party "free luncheon" for those who had reached the age of 100. So many showed up they ran out of food! Suprised everyone.
I am sure genetics play a major role in our longevity too, like good looks good genetics are a gift of birth.

Ever walk into a nursing home? Like 50 women to every guy. The guys are all long since dead. Longetivity indeed does have a genetic component, but it also seems to have a strong gender component.
Goof, is it to much to ask to refrain from your statistical calculations during meal hours?

like good looks good genetics are a gift of birth.

You call good looks a gift? You should try walking in my shoes. College gals stalking me at the mall, nannies eyeballing me from behind their dark glasses at the pool, female cabbies fighting over my suitcases at the airport. I'm telling ya Kalio, it ain't easy being me......

Fat Liver in Skinny Person. That's me. Bad predictor for SVR...only time will tell. Fatty liver is much more common with 3a but it's more predictive of SVR for other genotypes (since most 3a types have fatty liver).

Also some evidence that fatty liver is a stronger predictor of SVR for those who are also overweight.

Trivia: There's a bluegrass band in Austin called THE BAD LIVERS.

Kalio: Please see my post to you below (under "48 weeks") about ZOFRAN for nausea.
