Oxycontin or not?

Hello

Apparently, taking two 5 mg. of Oxycodone for two weeks at about 6 per week has not dented this horrific back pain apparently greatly amplified by the treatment, or, I've become acclimated to the drug.

I met with the back specialist today who has ordered an MRI. Meanwhile, I asked him to get me through this month on my feet if possible. He has prescribed Oxycontin at 80 mg. pills, one every 12 hours.

Isn't this a powerful drug to have your liver handle? What about the dosage? I'm going from a maximum of 2 pills (10 mg.) Oxycodone at one time, to 80 mg. of Oxycontin at one time.

I spoke to the pharmacist today and she said it is metabolized in the kidneys not the liver. True or false? I am very reluctant to take any drugs and will obviously take one when the pain is unbearable (like at night). My gastro said no to Oxycontin but yes to Oxycodone. I remain more confused now than before. Any reply will be greatly appreciated

This question was asked a long time ago but just in case someone may need the answer... I suffer from many things but my most severe condition is called "non alcoholic, non hepatitis cirrhosis of the liver". I take 10mg's of Oxycodone every 6 hours. It is without any kind of Tylenol or Advil etc. and isn't metabolized by the liver or I couldn't take it. My condition is terminal and my doctor refuses to increase my dosage. Not because of it damaging my liver further but because of the potential for abuse. The abusers of this drug have ruined it for people who legitimately need it just to function somewhat day to day. For the time that I do have left, I would like to be able to live it out somewhat comfortably. At this point, it doesn't seem that that is going to happen for me. My body has become so tolerant to the drug that taking 10 mg every six hours for me is almost like taking a baby aspirin. It's just sad.
