Pain Meds

my dr. prescribed ULTRAM  for chronic pain which he seems to feel runs with liver disease.  its actually fibromyalgia-like but the fibro points arent sensitive.
anyone have any experiences with pain meds?  i dont take tylenol because of my liver, aspriin and ibuprofen dont agree with me either.  i have fibrosis not cirrhosis and cleared the virus with treatment.
so  i do have some concerns about ULTRAM  as ive found some sites where some feel it is hard to wean off of and it can affect people differently.  it doesnt sound like your run-of-the-mill pain medication.   just wondering.......

i forgot to add, i too have fibrosis stage 2 grade 2 and i was worried about taking the baclofen because it is metabolized through the liver, so, i asked my gi and he said that my liver is still functioning fine and being that i'm doing tx, my liver is getting a break and is able to metabolize the drug just fine. i also take an AD that is also metabolized through the liver. take whatever you need to take to keep a good quality of life. take care

Hi, hope you had a happy holiday! Anyway, what do you, or anyone, know about headache pain meds? I occasionally get right eye pain headaches, prob from menopause and the hep, or one or the other or both, god knows, anyway...wondering  what pain meds are good for migraine or headache, on tx and off. Just your takes, realize none of us are docs, but we do have to take the stuff! Thanks!

Does anyone ever see these zig-zag spots in front of their eyes, I had eye exam and everything was fine, but a couple of days ago I couldn't seem to focus and it was like everything was zig-zagging, and of course I was out in public, went and sat in my car for about 15 min. then figured had to try to make it home, got home and about 20 min later it was gone. Had a really bad headache. Called Dr. she said call eye dr, which of course will be closed till Monday. And this was the wk. the dr. didn't call meds in and I had to skip last Friday. I wear contacts, but with all the stress of waiting to see about kidney transplant just wonder if that would cause this. BTW did 12 wk pcr Wed. Now wait and see how that turns out. Hope everyone had nice Thanksgiving. Appreciate any ideas or opinions. Linda. Oh by the way about the Ultram, I take it and it seems to help, doesn't seem to hurt liver or kidneys, my dr prescribed and have had no ill effects. Thanks again Linda

Hi Linda:

Yes, I have that all the time, along with floaters and sometimes the floaters are in color...I had an eye appointment last week and the zig zags and coloured floaters, without a headache are called "occular migraine"...When you get the zig zags and then the headache that is all part of the migraine headache, but getting it without the headache is occular migraine...I had a glaucoma test and the retina test because I was as concerned, as you are...But, remember, I am not on tx meds so it may be different in your case...

hi, sorry youre having probs. What I'm so amazed about here is how strong and centered so many of you are...me with my anxiety, if I had what youre talking about with my eyes, it would put me into a panic attack like you've never seen before!! ha ha! I'd call out the National Guard with the major freak out I'd have! Doesn't bode too well on tx huh?...Whatever, one day at a time. Anyway, I remember Califia talking about some type of eye "light show" or something....the kind that comes without Pink Floydd...I'll ask her about it. All I know that it resoved after some time. Hope yours does too.

Hi Linda,

As the Dip says some people get visual auras as part of a migraine headache. I get occular migraines--been getting them on and off for decades and they sound pretty much like what you are describing. Sometimes I get the headache afterwards sometimes not, but either way it is very disconcerting. I too have had to pull over to the side of the road sometimes but have never felt that I wasn't safe on the road--I've always had time. An opthamaligist (sp?) not an optometrist is needed here--you want to get an accurate diagnosis. I know that one of the side effects of Ribavarin (I think) are cotton wool spots? I've seen that referenced and discussed on this website before so I'm sure someone will come along with more accurate info on that then mine. How are you feeling? Are you nearing the end? Are you getting the viral reduction you need for your transplant? Peace and joyfilled holidays,

Tracy

I may have posted this before - I've had problems with floaters too. Called in a plumber & he blamed high fiber diet and low water pressure. Said just flush twice. Of course, mine were not in color. That might cause me more concern.

Hi Linda
My business partner got some occular migraines a few months ago and it scared the whiz out of her.  They sounded like what you got.  I know she had a few appointments and they dilated her eyes and checked, but there was nothing she could really do about them and no permanent damage (not hep c related for her at all - probably stress related).

I am thrilled you are getting your 12 week pcr and cannot wait until you post results.  I left you a note yesterday on your thread titled "treatment" by the way.

Hi Tracy:

Quick question:

Are you occular migraines any different since tx?

I quizzed the opthamologist last week about my eyes and what would happen if I went on tx and she said they could improve...

I have had two prescription changes for my glasses within a year so that is of concern to me too, whether vision would improve or worsen...

They haven't really changed. I don't get them that often and consider them more of a nuiscance then anything else. The pain migraines that I get are the worst--I wake up with them and as soon as I move I know I'm down for the count--not unlike evil hangovers from another life I lived. Luckily, they are pretty rare too. I definitely think (in my case) stress increases their frequency. I'm getting bad one sided, behind the eye headaches on treatment but I wouldn't equate them to migraines. I think I get them when I am not drinking enough water. 30+ years with the virus, in treatment and 54 years old--it's pretty hard to tell what aches, pains and symptoms come from what these days.

Tracy:  I guess I had not relized that you and I have the same stats...30+ years with the virus and 54 yo...I got horrible migraines all my life...I can remember my Mother making me take a nylon stocking (I'm aging myself now...lol stockings before pantyhose)and wrapping it around my temple and tie it as tight as I could stand to stop the pain...Believe it or not, it worked!  It's weird now though, the migraines are becoming less and less and the occular more...

kalio:  I had no idea that changing rx for glasses that often was the norm...I have been going to the eye doc once every two years, but now I am going to make sure I go every year...What's an occular bleed? Is that a detached retina?

Good to see that you are still here. Are you starting tx yet? While I was on tx I used to get the right eye migraine also, my doctor tried many things. But only the imitrex shots worked for me. I hated doing yet another shot but I knew it would work.

I must warn you though. After I took the shots I would first get sick (yes throw up) then I would have to lay down and my headache would get worse for about 5 mins till I fell asleep, but when I woke (about an hour or so) later the headache was gone!!!

The good news is that I have only had 2 migraines since I ended tx a year ago.

Good luck to you my friend.

I I have been using Tramadol/APAP which is a sub for Ultracet. I have had a problem with it and they said it a lot better than tylenol and you should take nothing but tylenol as a across the counter drug all the other are really bad for the old liver. They told me that Ulteacet only has about 200mg of what tylenol has and I can take it up to the with to 200mg up to 2400mg daily or just 2400mg of tylenol SO it seem to work ok for me on really bad day I have taken them and a tylenol mix keep with the 2400mg thing and done fine.
