There is such a thing as a living doner transplant where you are given some liver from a suitable doner, this wd qualify as a partial transplant.

This would only be considered in life threatening end stage liver disease-not simply cirrhosis.

So I understand, yes it would. There are difficulties with transplanting people who are still hep c +ve however and you should really speak tp your consultant.

Take care

Okay, there is such a thing as a partial liver transplant which is not the same as a live liver transplant. It is my understanding that the partial one is not used for cirrhosis patients since they only remove part of the old liver.

22hamilton, you are mistaken. There are not difficulties transplanting people with hep C. However, transplantation does not cure hep C.

I had a live liver transplant a year ago. They took 60% of my daughter's liver and replaced my old one with it. Her liver was completely regrown in less than 3 months.
It took mine a little longer. Live liver transplants have excellent success rates.

Thankyou orphanedhawk perhaps I should have been more specific in my wording of difficulties in that any kind of transplantation is not a cure for hep c.My understanding was that the immuno suppressives following transplant could impact viral activity in the recipient.
Am glad your transplant is going well OH, am afraid that wasnt the case for a friend of mine hence my more cautionary answer.

It's better if you don't extrapolate from one friend's experience. I was transplanted in June 2000 and achieved SVR in June 2004. I was exceedingly lucky and my experience shouldn't be cited or referenced as a typical HCV transplant outcome. If you look at the data it appears that 23 -33% of HCV+ liver transplant recipients will achieve SVR. It also appears as if roughly (depending on the source) 20 - 33% of HCV+ transplant recipients will become cirrhotic within 5 years of transplant. The one year and 5 year mortality rates for HCV+ recipients are very similar to liver transplant recipients in general. It is the long term graft and patient survival of HCV+ recipients that is concerning.

In my first post I wasnt extrapolating anything Mike merely infering that transplants for hep c+ve recipients have extra issues. I am not going to get involved in any additional pedantry or bickering.I was merely trying to give some info out to someone-information which I might add is not flawed or mistaken.I have enough problems of my own so will not push the matter.

Push the matter - What matter is there to push?
