Piercings and risk

Hey everyone,

My barber is HIV positive and open about his status. I didn't think twice about getting my hair cut today...

but thinking back my ears are newly pierced -less than 2 weeks old- Does this pose a risk of contracting Hepatitis C, HIV or any other bloodborne disease?

The holes are still raw and ooze occasionally. I love my barber, just hope I'm ok!!

Your risk is minimal for exposure to Hep C or HIV unless he were to get his blood or semen into your ear (or if he had infected fresh blood on his tools).

But get into the habit of covering up any open open wounds - you are much more likely to catch a staph or other  nasty infection leaving them exposed. Also, you risk exposing others to anything you might be carrying by leaving the wounds open.
