Pleurisy occurs when the double membrane that lines the chest cavity and surrounds each of your lungs becomes inflamed.  When inflamed, the two layers rub against each other, producing pain every time you breath.

Pleurisy can be caused by a viral infection (like the flu), a bacterial infection (pneumonia), a lung clot, or autoimmune conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus.

You treat pleurisy by treating whatever is causing it.  For example, if the cause of pleurisy is a bacterial infection of your lung (pneumonia), then you may need antibiotics to get rid of it.  So you need to see your doctor so he can determine the cause and give you the proper medication.

It is. I've been prescribed narcotics only once, and it was for plurisy. See a doctor right away and get treated!

I had it at one time...thought I was having a heart attack...

went to the e.r. and they said pleurisy!  at the time i didnt even know what pleurisy was, but I know it hurt like heck.

I believe that I got the pleurisy attack from yelling at my students too much!  It was a bad year, with lots of street thugs, mental patients and deliquents!

Tylenol cleared it right up,  I also quit yelling and no more problems!
