Pnuemonia

anyone out there getting a pnuemonia shot while on tx?  my Hep Nurse just told me because I have a history of allergic asthma I should get one this year - She said I will stop tx in December and the immune system will be very vulnerable so she suggests I get both, a flue shot and an pnuemonia shot - Anyone have their docs say this?

sorry to hear that - I have been lucky so far (knock on wood) I had to take anti biotics a couple weeks but that was due to an injection site infection caused by me...

even WITH interferon I catch everything...they call it immunomediation. I usually catch things in the latter part of the week, when the pegylated IFN is at its lowest point in my body.

And keep in mind, I go out very rarely now....so....

my fear is - the time I will be ending Interferon I will be in the States with my Grandkids - Kids get every germ that's going around - My Hep Nurse told me the other day that once you are off Interferon your immune system is extremely weak and that winter is one of the worst times to end tx due to the  low immune system - So I guess I will take the precaution and get them both - I don't have any history of pnuemonia but I do have allergic asthma and use an inhaler..But I do not smoke so maybe just maybe that will prevent any lung issues..Boy oh boy - This never stops does it - I thought once I was Interferon free I would good to go - silly me..LOL

I got the flu and pneumonia shot last fall and I thought the pneumonia shot was for 5 years. Maybe I got something else....don't know but will ask when I go for this years flu shot.    -Libby

I got a flu shot two days ago, seemed to work out ok.  They aren't offereing the pneumonia shot anywhere nearby yet, but I've been told I need that too what with this tx and my anemia (I always seem to catch whatever people are handing out).  - I know.  I'm such a taker.  I need to learn to give a little.  lol j/k

I will be getting flu and pneumonia shots both on Monday. But I just got over pneumonia and don't nkow how much that really helps but Meki I've been getting EVERY lung infection known to man since I stopped tx 8 months ago...so I'd totally advise it.

It's funny just like PSP today someone called ME BubbleGirl I swear!

Just FYI --- Do it.

I did it - and still managed to get pneumonia - just last month *still hacking*

Anyhow --- doc tells me I may need to do 2 consecutive years of them. Sigh... They hurt - but I think if I didn't take the first one... I may not have survived this last bug. It was harsh - knocked me down harder than any other bug. And I refused to do prednisone --- cause I'm terrified of breaking SVR down.

Anyway - yeah - go get it. I TX'd but I'm telling you what --- I'm still catching everything that floats by. I hope that part gets better. Or I'm going to end up living in a bubble. LOL!
