Positive Hep C antibody IgG

Positive Hep C antibody IgG

I had the following blood results last month.

SE HEPCG        REACTIVE

HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN
SE   HBSAG      NONREACTIVE

I have recently had the following results:

Fibrosis stage: F0 - No fibrosis
Necroinflammat activity score: 0.02       Reference range: 0.00 - 0.17
Necroinflammat activity grade: A0 - No activity

Analysis:
Alpha 2 macroglobulins Qn: 172           Reference range: 110-276
Haptoglobin: 126                                 Reference range: 34-200
apolipoprotein A-1: 206  HIGH              Reference range: 110-180
Bilirubin total: 0.3                                Reference range: 0.1-1.2
GGT: 18                                             Reference range: 0-60
ALT (SGPT) PSP: 12                          Reference range: 0-40

Hepatitis C virus Quantisure:

Hepatitis C quantitation: Less than 5 copies/mL
HCV quant: Less than 2 IU/ml
HCV IU log 10: Unable to calculate results since nonnumeric result obtained for component test.

My exhusband was hep C pos back in the 1980s, so i was apparently exposed many yrs ago. I Have never had abnormal liver enzymes.  What does the results of the above tests mean? I believe its negative and perhaps reflects prior exposure and no liver disease?  Do i still need to proceed w/ further testing? What does the high apolipoprotein indicate? Its all very confusing.

Thanking you in advance. :)

PCR was negative and the one you had is a very good PCR.  It means you do not have HCV.  IMO, additional testing is not necessary.  Fibrosure test shows no fibrosis.

Don't know what the apolipoprotien means.

Thank you SOOOOOO much!  I am waiting to hear back from the GI doctor regarding the other labs he wanted, but so far nothing. Another had Dr. ordered the above tests and then I saw GI prior to these results being back. I am hoping I am DONE with him!

I appreciate your prompt response....Im going to go do the Snoopy Dance now! :D

Your HCV Antibody Test was reactive (positive) and your PCR was undetected. The newest recommendations when that happens is to do the RIBA which will tell you if you are one of the lucky ones who fought off the virus without treatment, or if your antibody test was a false positive. This is only necessary if there is a need to know. It is the new recommendation by the CDC.

JennyPenny is 100 % correct.  You should ask for the Riba test.  This is VERY

specific confirmatory test for Hcv antibody.  If Neg, your screening test was false pos.

If pos, your neg Pcr says you were exposed at some point in the past but your immune

sysytem cleared the virus without treatment.  Anyone who clears the virus will keep

the antibodies for, probably, the rest of their life.

I finally got a call back from the GI/Hep doctor's office. He wants me to have the RIBA test and follow up in 3 mos. I am so thankful, despite everything.  Thanks to everyone for being here! I will post when I know my RIBA results. :-)
