Prednisone § Imuran for AIH

I was diagnosed with AIH in April 2001. My main symptoms were joint aches & pains and jaundice. I was put on Prednisone and Imuran, and my dr plans on leaving me on both for life (a long time, since I was 21 when diagnosed). Is anyone else still on prednisone? It seems from reading posts that most people are taken off prednisone completely. I'm on 5mg. I am not as tired as I was before starting the medication, and I have very few joint aches & pains and no other signs of the illness. I also have no bothersome side effects from the medicine. I'm afraid if I did go off prednisone, I would not feel as good as I feel now. Any comments? Thanks from WI
