Progression

by hep62pj, Jul 05, 2007 12:00AM
I know that there is no way of telling really how the disease will progress in one person as opposed to another and that a biopsy is the only real way to show where your liver is at but ... are there any symptoms/signs that might indicate its getting worse??  I occasionaly get these pains on my right side and right lower back, i dont know if its just gas pains or what... dont really have any other problems, im not overly tired or anything...

I was diagnosed about 3 years ago, stage 2/grade 2, I treated with virimadine/interfuron on a clinical trial about a year ago and I was dropped after 6 months, they just told me it 'wasnt working' and that was it, they would not give me any idea if I was slow responding, now responding, nothing...

I have cut way back on alcohol use (which was pretty frequent before I was diagnosed), i eat healthy, take milk thistle every day...  i am 46 female and im about 99.9% sure i got this betwen 1980-83/84 IV drug use

any replies would be appreciated thanks alot

No way to answer your question.  The pains could be anything.

the odds say out of 100 people who ge hep-c

80 will become chronic   of those

20 will develope serious liver problems   of those

2 or 3  will develope liver cancer.

The odds say 75% of the 80 chronic  will have no problems.

So as you can see its all a gamble

I guess the best thing you can do is just try and be healthy and stop worrying about it then ... the only thing we can control is our alcohol intake really, i know if you keep drinking chances are it will get worse..

i cant stand it every ache/pain i have i think its because of the hep...

you said you cut back on alcohol use. but even a little alcohol can accelerate this disease. so if you were a 2/2 three years ago and continued to drink then this could very well have progressed your stage to 3 or worse. NO alcohol slows progression, if you drink even a moderate amount it is like throwing gas on a fire. best of luck to you.
