Question Por Favor

I have had my bx report and it says 2/2 mild activity and mild periportal fibrosis. Iron stain was negative and there was focal mild fatty change. Is that mild firosis or moderate fibrosis?
As far as reading this all the the sites 2/2 states moderate.
Im not obsessing just a little confused.
WOuld you clarify for me.

Thanks Bonnie

Sound to me like your biopsy is not a major concern, and reading between the lines there is not much damage done.

However, as stated it really depends on the scoring scale. Interpreting the biopsy is also dependent on other factors, notably the duration of HCV infection (the scores you mention would be more significant if the disease had been present for 1-2 years rather than 20, for example) and the presence of co-mormidities; a biopsy like that would have less significance (from the HCV perspective) if it was obtained from someone who drinks 80-100 grams alcohol / day than from a non-drinker (to flesh out some hypothetical issues).

Overall, most clinicians would make a decision to suggest treatment or not on other factors, with most favouring treatment, in the absence of contra-indication, in most people almost irrespective of the biopsy.  Where I practice, liver biopsy is non-essential prior to therapy. Certainly, if I had the problem I would treat myself without regard to liver biopsy (and I wouldn't have once done).  On the other hand, if I was 70 I would decline therapy almost irrespective...

Sonic

I don't have the site open right now, but I think that when you look at your stage/grade (your doc said stage 2/grade 2) - it is on the 1 to 4 scale for each. So, that puts you somewhere in the middleish for both. Which is not a bad neighborhood.  I'm doing ok. Tonight is 32 so tomorrow I'll have 14 left.  It's gonna rain here all weekend, kid's softball tourney up north is rained out and I'll need to find something to do to keep busy between naps.  By the way, did you tell the UM guys that you were available sooner in case a cancellation comes up?

I did tell U of M if a cancellation comes up to please call. They said dont count on it. I can wait Sept 14 will be here fast enough. Time flys when your having so much fun.
Thanks for the clarification of mild and moderate....really doesnt matter I know cause I will be treating. I just thought personally I was in the middle of mild and moderate too but like I said didnt know which scale was used to determine my biopsy. So you agree its sort of in the middle too. Ok!

Im just chilling this weekend going to take it light and clean the house. How exciting.
Feel well and have a good weekend.
Glad to hear your sx havent been bad thats good!!!!
