I saw your bio on OHC's site and realized my mistake, I thought that I had heard something previously about you and FL though, I know that there is another website that many from here have posted pics and info on but I must not have bookmarked it cause I can't find it now. Can you give me that site address?  Is it the same one that Eydeas is posting his lyrics on? I'm not sure I bookmarked that one either. Anyway, hang tuff in the cold, cause it should be a nice holiday when you get to Fl, even though a long way to go. I love the ocean.   Take care, berlynn

Hi, actually I live in upstate/central NY state.
It's nasty right now; we're in the coldest pocket between Ohio and Boston.  We may not hit the highest snow tomorrow, but the wind makes up for that.  I'm just going to stay in my cave.
I inherited my mother's house in S.W. FL 3 years ago, and we go down there when we can.  We're going down just before Christmas, to stay 3 weeks.  I can't wait.  It will be a nasty long drive, though.

As always, you are helping me out again, Thanks:) I don't think that I've hit a vein yet, but I do bruise after every shot. I mostly stick (it) to my legs, I've tried my tummy but I'm too much of a baby. On the Pegasys VHS tape it said to throw away the syringe and meds if they got blood in them too. I'm glad you cleared this up for me cause I did'nt like the idea of throwing it all away, and like you said, it's my own blood. I don't want to take a chance that my insurance won't pay for a replacement either. How is the weather in FL right now? I think, I remember, that's where you live. We have been lucky the last couple of days here in AZ, it has got back up to 75. It has been beautiful.  Take care,   berlynn

I usually swab a fairly large area with the alcohol.  If this happens, I pull the needle out and jab again ASAP nearby.  Any  germs or blood on that needle are already from me...
If you pinch an inch, or a fold of skin, and pull it away from the muscle, etc., you are not likely to hit a major vein.
You can even try sliding the needle out 1/8 inch and completing the shot (vein is not likely to be bigger than an 1/8 of an inch thick) with the needle part way out.
You will get a bruise any time you poke a blood vessel.
But I wouldn't waste the dose, either.

OHC,   The nurse @ my drs office said that during injection to pull back first to see if there is blood which I assume means you hit a vein. If there is blood (she said) to throw away the syringe and start over. What do you think about this?  I haven't had it happen yet but if it did, and I had to throw away the loaded syringe and start over...??..... I'm not sure that my ins co would cover the extra med I would need for the one I had to throw away.  Does this make sense?   thanks, berlynn

Cindee,   i'ts good to hear from you and I'm glad that you seem to be feeling better. I do feel more up-beat:) I was getting overwhelmed, especially as I learned more from everyone here. But, I am trying to not be on the computer everyday focusing on my tx and sx. I think that helps, plus when I do visit this board, I recieve alot of friendship and support which really helps too. I don't think that I feel as needy as I did when I first found this site. Monday nite was 25/48. I just passed the halfway mark.. yeahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!  Hang in there friend and take care,    berlynn

Do you have the link to the Chicago Tribune article?  I sent a message recently to CNN asking for more awareness articles on hepc.  I read somewhere that May is National Hepatitis Awareness Month.  Does anyone know about that?  Are there any activities planned that you know about?  If we start now, perhaps we can get good coverage by then. caruu

NewSojourn - I dont think what you said was ****...geepers.
Dheanna - no, I dont know what Kirk died from, but it probably wasnt the Hep C. He had an infection from a brain surgery, he said the Dr was worried it had gotten into his skull bone, so he was on heavy antibiotics IV.
Tim - I think it was the fear when you saw the knot forming, men more frequently get faint from needles and have what they call a vagal reaction, which is getting pale, faint, passing out, slowed heart rate, cool and clammy.  You can hit little blood vessels during your injections, but its nothing to worry about, just leaves a bruise.
Cindee - good 4 u!  Get some media attn!  Oprah Dr Phil etc YEA!
BEfuddled - so nice to hear your bx went well, isnt that sedation NICE??!!  Thats a bummer the nurse bruised you starting the IV.  And they should all wear gloves every time they start an IV, diagnosis of Hep C or whatever, doesnt matter!  but some nurses & docs/anesthesiologists, are stubborn and think they cant feel the vein as well, so they go without.
Let us know what the results are, and yes, treatment is usually next unless your liver is perfect, then you can wait awhile for tx.  They should also only stick you twice and then get another
nurse to try, cuz that's just being considerate of the patient, the nurse may be having a bad IV-start kinda day!

Sorry to butt in but Ive got a question. What should you do if you hit a blood vessel.Did my 8th shot Friday.Saw a knot form and roll away from the injection site as I was giving it.Stood up and took about 3 steps and passed out only for a minute, then felt very nauseated for a few minutes.Thought maybe just having stress as my sister passed awaythe 21rst and we buried her on the 26th.She would have been 46 on the 27th.We were very close.Keep us in your prayers please. But anyway with all that plus the 12 hour trip back home on Friday then the shot Friday evening I just thought this might have been why I reacted like that, haven't had any trouble before. Thanks guys.

Hi,
Sorry you're dealing with Hepatitis C, but welcome.
Relax, this is a slow moving disease, and there's a lot you can do. Make sure you have a good doctor (preferably a gastro-enterologist or hepatologist) to work with you. You're going to need this doc for a while, so make sure you have good communications. Good luck, and come back here with your questions and comments.
Here are a great bunch of web sites where you can get informed.
Don't go crazy: the information on these web sites should be the same, so read just enough.

Get the basics on the FAQ's of these general HCV sites:

Read and do your own research and then ask one new question or tag onto another thread.

DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH...NOTHING ANY ONE SAYS WILL MAKE SENCE UNTIL YOU KNOW THE BASICS.

The best way to get answers to fit your situation is to TELL YOUR STORY.  This works in AA, NA, Cancer survivors, talk shows, etc.

Do you have hep c? What genotype, this is very impotant?  What does the biopsy say?  What are your treatment options?  Who pays?  How long have you had it?  It doesn't matter how you got it here, b/some of us who have transfused infections share that, since it shows how the disese progresses.  Are you abstaining from harmful substances, this can include red meat, sugar, junk, drugs, legal or not, alcohol, cigarretts.  Do you have other health problems, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity?

Start your research, type in 'hep c and milk thistel' in your search engine and get ready for thousands of things to pop up.

50 international units per millilitre of blood.
Milk thistle is an herb that allegedly protects the liver. It is considered okay to use.
Vitamin c poses no threat to the liver that I know of. Of course reasonable doses should be used as with any vitamin or nutrient.
Ditto to what Sherr said. Try to use one post for all your questions. Mike
