RUQ pain

Hello,

Has anyone here with RUQ pain have an ultrasound or hida scan done to check their gall bladder or liver status?  I have heard that the major discomfort from RUQ pain is due to either gall bladder wall thickening or hepatomegaly (enlargement of the liver).  If so, what was the major finding/cause of the RUQ pain according to the ultrasound.....  Thank you.

You don't have hepC don't sweat it the odds would be astronomically against it.  You have to have blood to blood contact which is extremely unlikely in your case.

Hi Diane - it means - upper right quadrant - where the liver is and the gallbladder is kind of tucked underneath it.  My pain comes from the liver.

Thank you aquarius.  Great to hear you are SVR.  The URQ sensations I have been  experiencing is very uncomfortable, and I haven't been able to sleep in a couple of months.  I am having an upper GI done soon, so maybe I can find out some answers at that point.  Take care.

i have been SVR for almost 3 years but have suffered occasional URQ pain that landed me in the ER.  they said i have gall bladder polyps but thet they shouldn't be of concern. an US shows a small gall stone as well as the polyps but it gives me severe pain every 6 months or so. my gastro says i should have gall bladder US every so often.  i do have difficulty swallowing since tx and i have an esophagram on tuesday.  i had URQ pain with my 3rd child, which is when i found out i was HCV+, she is clear of hep c.  i hope your symptoms improve!!

Hi Bali,
I have been experiencing RUQ discomfort now for 3 months.  It all started after a brief visit to a massage parlor (no sex just manual stimulation).  I know, it would be rare to catch hep c from this incident but I am vaccinated for hep B, and tested neg for A and C to date (possible window period).

I went to see a GI doc and had an ultrasound that show gall bladder wall thickening which could be due to a type of hepatitis among other things.  The wall thickening could result in RUQ discomfort but I want to find out what the underlying cause of the thickening is whether it is a mechanical issue or pathological in nature.  In any event, I had a HIDA scan done and am awaiting the results.  The liver appeared to be of normal size and LFT's are normal.

Thanks for the reply....
