I can't beleive a doc said to ride it out. They hurt bad and zovirax is just an ointment.
I am in wk46 going on for 72 (1b).
In my case the tx did have impact on cold sores. I used to have them long time ago twice a year, but in the last 20-25 years haven't had any. Until now. Already had 4 times since I started tx. Blistex (medicated lip ointment) helps me if I apply it right away once I feel the very first signs. The sores don't stay long and are not big, they go away completely in 2-3 days. But this is just me. Everybody is different.
I hope you don't get them so often now.
Good luck.

Thank you for all the suggestions for meds but my doctor said not to take anything - even the over the counter cold sore med. He said ride it out. Luckily it was not bad and healed quickly.
I am on tx and I just got felt a cold sore comming on.Tx has nothing to do with it. I have gotten them all my life. If you get a prescription for zovirax it will go away very fast. I can tell when i'm going to get one, you feel that tiny itchy bump. i called my doc got the pres and it went away. Before this med i got big ones. try it it works. A little pricey 50.00 a tube but it is worth it. Also the tube last a long time you don't use much
Good Luck
Cold sores (Herpes) appears to be common in treatment. I had 7 (yes count them) 7 come out overnight during treatment. I use an ointment recommended by my doctor, called Zovirax. I believe you need a prescription, but ask your doctor. Below is cautionary and use info...

Coincidentally, the company that makes TMC435, the new protease inhibitor my husband's on a trial for, has just had approved a medication that is said to shorten the healing time of cold sores and even stop them from occurring. It's called Lipsovir, and while it's not available yet, I am waiting for it eagerly, since I hate those things with a passion. Hope the stuff really works.
I have gotten cold sores all my life. the 2 best things for them are aviclior pills-given for genital herpesLOL,they are given for both. The other thing is zovirax cream. They will clear it up in a day or 2. They are miracles
Good Luck
Cheri- I may probally be spelling the aviclior wrong but the doc will know what you mean
THANK YOU! I will settle down and not worry. Well I will probably be worried until I hear SVR! I just hope this 72 weeks does it. Don't even want to think about doing this again right now. The weeks are dragging now. I wouldn't have made it this far with out you all and I am not just saying that.
I got the Mother of all cold sores at the end of my treatment. I was basically on my whole lip. And guess what; I am SVR. This medication causes one problem after another. Don't sweat it.

Hi there,
I agree with NYG. I have never heard anything about cold sores being a predictor of relapse...and IMO, the fact that your labs are running low, means the meds are still doing your job.
I'm a 72 week extender too and am feeling the brutality of this last "shove" to EOT. Even harder is having no guarantees that there will be a trade off. I guess that's why we come here,.... to find others to help us chase the demons away...and to return the favor when we can.
Hang in there. 58 weeks already !!! WOW! Pam
Oh and by the way if it were impossible for us to 'get' a virus while on treatment they wouldn't make us get a flu shot! So that's sort of proof it's no big deal right?
no, I agree with your doctor completely a cold sore is not a predictor of relapse at all......since the interferon won't kill the herpes virus and it's still there i'ts totally possible for it to pop up once in a while. Don't sweat it, I know how obsessive us heppers can be but I think you are just fine.
