Red, sore throat

by raheem, Aug 10, 2003 12:00AM
I'm 11 weeks into tx and my raspy voice and dry cough are still there, but also, now my throat is red and sore on the left side. No temperature, no mouth sores, but I'd like to try a mouthwash or gargling solution before I end up going to the Dr. for a throat culture and maybe antibiotics. Anyone else been here?  Thanks to all.

I had similar problems and found that plain old salt water helped loads. I gargled with it about 3 times a day.

I got a raspy voice almost every week on tx, about half the time I actually lost my voice for a day. Very slight sore throat along with it. Mine always went away on its own. I really don't have any evidence of it but I think mine is caused by my sinuses-drainage down the back of my throat. I had bad sinuses before tx now I have horrible sinuses. Hot peppers help open them up but that's when they aren't draining and my eyes feel like they are going to pop out.

I have had a red sore throat since Memorial Day.  I haven't started tx.  Could it be from the HepC?  I have had some problem with enflammed stomach/esophagus.  Thought maybe the throat was related to that.  I'm on Protonix.  It seems to be helping the GERD.

I had mentioned a while back that I started getting red like pimples on my groin area, arms, legs and abdomin (abdomen). I tried every kind of cream  from prescription to OTC.  Well someone in the Urinary section said the beach water helped him or her. Since I had no beach within 450 miles of me, I tried Epson salt bathes like one other person. I would soak in it for 15 minutes and rince in a shower. One thing I would recommend is to put some cream on after you complely dry off.  The Epson salt really dries up the area infected.  The area I had it bad caused chafing when I walked. It's better in the evening, a couple hours before bed.  I can't believe after 5 months it is gone.  Though it never hurt it was embarrasing. Take care.
