Regeneration possible after Treatment?

Hi Everyone!
I noticed someone already asked this back in 2002.  But I can't find out if anyone answered it.
I am at stage 2 or 3 of Hep C and considering treatment.   I have Genotype 3A and the viral load is well under a million.  My enzymes have never been elevated, but my most recent ultrasound indicates my current stage of liver disease. I wonder if the liver will be able to regenerate after treatment.  Any thoughts on this?
Thanks--
Arjayo

Absolutely.

My favorite reference is an abstract by Mitchell Schiffman at
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2009-06/aga-abm052909.php :
'Conversely, the 102 patients who achieved SVR had a significant reduction in fibrosis score; 73 percent of patients who had portal fibrosis on their first biopsy showed no evidence of scarring on the second biopsy, while 20 percent showed no change with treatment. Of the patients with bridging fibrosis on first biopsy (52 percent of the cohort with SVR), 35 percent had no scarring on the second biopsy, 23 percent had portal scarring, 38 percent remained unchanged and 4 percent had cirrhosis, which investigators believe could be a sampling error. For patients with cirrhosis on first biopsy (19 percent of the cohort with SVR), 50 percent had improved on second biopsy — 10 percent had no scarring, 10 percent had portal scarring and 30 percent had improved to bridging fibrosis.'

Get treatment. Sooner the better. If you don't damage will continue to occur. Put it this way, the longer you wait the more damage your liver has to recover from if treatment is successful. Do it while you are younger and stronger and presumably healthier than you might be years down the line. Who knows what happens tomorrow.

read the posts from this very same web site. Says 80% chance to clear, 24 week treatment. Such odds! If it were poker I'd be all in. But it's not, and you are already all in. Take this serious, very serious. Get it done, get it out of the way, live a longer, healthier life.

I see you joined the community a few hours ago. Welcome. There are so many knowledgeable, helpful, people here. You came to the right place.

YES it is possible indeed.  This is one of the reasons that we do treatment although it might not affect us for many years to come. Unfortunately most of us don't go out and get a new biopsy afterwards to find out.

You did mean that your biopsy indicates your current stage of liver disease right - the ultrasound only will show tumors or growths or advanced cirrhosis but the biopsy provides the grade and stage.
