Research programs

I hope im not annoying but I'll take the chance. My husband Hep c was found because we had to change insurance companies after living in Mexico 2 years.Because he came up with the Hep C he cant get the insurance. What does all this treatment cost, I hear it is high. Is there any reserch programs he might be able to get in? Thanks !

I broke down when dx and again when I found out what tx costs.  And then I read some more, was refered to a 'big city' hos. 2+hrs, over a mt range away, skipped all b/nec blood work-no bx-got into a study that paid for meds, handled all sx w/otc drugs, herbs and nutrional support and careful diet, and marijuanna (live in a med marijuanna state and vacation in Amsterdam!)

Altogether, I spent less than $3500.  No insurance or any type of gov aid.  So, its possible to treat hepc on the cheap.

2b, 24yr transfused infection, cl@4wks, post-tx 11mo.  SVR.

Thanks for being so understanding. I had no idea what a thread was and why I couldnt just ask away. I get in now. I am "gettin it" more and more from reading the archives. I'll just read and shut up. I have alot of pent up anger about all this and why and how obviously, my butt was showing. Sorry!

We all understand how scared you are and its ok.Let me try to explain how this works. The forum allows for 6 questions a day.The earlier you post the more likely you are to get to post. But you can ask as many questions as you  want under that post or any others. This forum is a great place to find information and support.Sometimes the folks on here get a little grumpy and thats understandable too considering all that they have to go through with treatment(so a little forgiveness goes a long ways, just like in any family). So you keep coming here and asking what you need to.Our prayers are with you.

Honey, we all have a lot of crosses to bear and when your husband gets on tx, you will realize that things will get better. We are all in this boat together, whether we treat or not. It is harsh to get the news, but you will live thru it and with the help of this board, learn a lot. We understand how you feel. We have all been there. Take a breath and think if it went undetected. At least you know. Now try to keep your head while all around you are loosing theirs.

You can call Hoffman-Laroache, the makers of Pegasys at 1-877-734-2797, or Schering-Plough at 1-888-437-2608.  These companies both have programs in place to help the uninsured.
