Response to Combo

by gee, Jan 19, 2001 12:00AM
I have been on Combo Therapy beginning mid July 2000.  Due to problems with hemolytic anemia, I was pulled after 3 and a half weeks and went back on at a reduced Ribavirin of 600 mgs. daily approx. 10 days later.  Another 4 weeks into Tx, I was again pulled because of low HCT and HgB.  Subsequently, I was put on Epogen 30,000 units wkly and returned to Combo tx after 3 more weeks.  Because of this, we decided to start counting from wk. 1 again, and now at the end of 12 wk. uninterupted Tx my viral load is still not 'undetectable'.  I know there has been a reduction but do not have exact number at this moment.  What are the chances of having a sustained response to Tx if Combo has failed to clear the virus at this point?  I am a 49 yr. old female. Infected with HBV in 1970 due to IVDU. have probably had HCV for 30 yrs.  My PCR at start of Tx was greater than 5,000,000 copies per ml.  My genotype is 2b.  I also have EMC.  Thanks in advance for your response.
